I saw a post somewhere about how you can use a step down ring on a Sigma 24-70mm to use 77mm filters without vignetting. What a great idea, since 82mm filters can get pretty pricey.

I looked at the glass portion of my lens and measured it to be only about 58mm, so I held a 58mm filter in front, set the focal length at 24mm, took a shot, and didn't see any vignetting. Even better! I should note I'm using a cropped Canon body. Since I have other lenses with 67mm filter size, I decided to get a 82mm-67mm step down ring and try out a 67mm filter. This was the result, and I've posted a full size photo uncropped so you can see that there's no vignetting.

There, I just saved you a TON of money. And if you're deciding between the Sigma and the Tamron 28-75mm, you don't have to let the filter size scare you away from the Sigma!
