Hi TPMG members,

*This is probably in the wrong place, if it is, could you kindly move it to the right place?

A friend of mine who works in a camera shop is able to get me some special deals on canon/nikon bodies and lenses.

For warranty, it is manufacture warranty and receipt can be provided if its paid with tax.

Body
Nikon D700 (body) - 2950 cash price
Canon 5D mk2 (body) - 3100 cash price

Lens
Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS - 2000 cash price

There other stuff on this list, but I didn't find the prices to be superb but I guess if its cash, then you can easily save the tax =)

If there is something you are looking for please feel free to let me know so I can enquire it for you.

I need about over 5 orders to make this worth while for my friend.

So I am up for

Canon 5D mk2 (24-105mm)

How about flashes? I might be interested in a 430EX II if I can scrounge up enough funds.

He said it was around the 2000 range and then i quickly checked aden camera.. and aden was selling for less...

it seems like hes able to get certain items at a lower price.

I got my 40D from him and it works beautifully =)

The 5DII is mighty tempting, but I've got my eye on a telescope I want to buy.
But if you need one more to make an order on 430EX II, let me know. I'm willing to dish out $310 for it.

So if one purchases the 5DMkII and doesn't want to pay tax they don't get a receipt and therefore they don't get the warranty(since the bill of sale is required)?

Canon 40D - I could sell mine =) whats your offer? Actuations around 4000 i think

Canon 580EXII - 500
Canon 135L - 1100 (not that great)
Canon 85 F1.8 - 500-510
Canon 50mm - not good prices
Canon 5D mk2 (body) - 3100

I have not dealt with canon service department in the past, and my camera (40D) is passed warranty since I got the camera a year ago.

Re: Warranty w/o receipt.

This is just similar to buying something from Pacific Mall, where cash price no receipt, but warranty still exist from the store (more troublesome)

Where if you pay tax, a receipt is given (less troublesome)

I believe receipt is not the only thing you need for Canon/Nikon to honour your warranty, the seller has to be an authorized dealer, too.

According to Nikon Canada website, you can't get any support unless it's from an authorized dealer.

Thanks for the clarification.

I have not taken my camera/lens for any repairs or whatsoever, but I was assured from my friend that warranty in canada will be offered.

For those who are questioning about the warranty.

I have verified with my friend, you could directly contact my friend or me. I'll send it back to the authorized repair centres and have it fixed.

I usually get my stuff from Amazing Photo up in Markham (mom & pop shop) in that little mall behind Pacific Mall. Raymond (the owner) is usually pretty good with pricing. Saved about $300 off my 5D MarkII body when they just came out. Not sure if that discount extends onto friends & family only but he's pretty aggressive with his prices and beats Henry's, Aden, Downtown Camera, Vistek etc prices. Better deal if paid by cash. What's even better is that all his stuff is legit and not grey market. He's an authorized Nikon and Canon dealer... you can verify that on Nikon and Canon Canada sites on their list of dealers.
