Anyone going? Anyone know if you can take camera gear in? And if yes, what kind of zooms?

To my knowledge there's no restriction on camera gear (at least that they enforced in past years). I've taken the Canon 100-400 2 years ago and had no problem.

Hi
I just read the list of what to bring - and what not to bring

Lens limited to 10" or less in length

I will be bringing my Nikon 70-300 VR and 17-55

The 70-200 is only 8.5" - so I guess they are restricting the 300 2.8 and up

Slightly different note, I went to a Toronto FC game a while back, and a person at the gate asked me what type of lens I had on my camera. I told her it was 55-250mm, she told me it wasn't allowed. Brought it in anyway, but just letting you know.

At the last FC game I went to, it was limited to 200mm
I was able to get my 70-300 in though, since she didn't look closely enough

Thanks for the responses. Even though I bought tickets, I may not be able to go due to work ... so it might be a moot point now. In any case, if I find out anything different with specifics on allowance of gear, I'll post a response.

If you spring for a photographers pass you can bring anything but video. They run about $250 for the full weekend.

No issues taking any camera gear in there, people were video taping too. I guess the fear is attendance being below target. Actually, I've never seen so many DSLRs in one place.

I will say, if its here next year ... I'm going to get a photographers pass. Nothing but fence, fence ... oh, and fence. I could get some shots from my stands seats, but the angle sucks.

I want this seat next year:

I had no trouble bringing in my XSi with kit lens lol  I've never felt to 'tiny' in my life. Everyone there had at least an 'L' lens. Almost all of the SLRs I saw had a 70-200 on it.

I'll post some pics when I wake up.

Borbor - you have some awesome shots. I hope they change their mind for next year and have the photographer passes available again.

So Alan, what sort of stuff did you get?

Doug was commenting on how much the stringers hate the Superpass, because the holders end up blocking the working shooters. He also mentioned that some woman with a Superpass was hanging out of one of the "photo holes" and into traffic, so got her access pulled. This was the first year that Doug had an all access pass.

Great fence-free stuff. I was with friends, so had 9/10 grandstand seats.

(202 pic set. I always take too many)

My first race shoot with a DSLR -- what a difference it makes!

Put on a 3-stop Cokin ND filter to get some good panning action. Two suggestions for those who might want to do the same thing: 3-stops are maybe too much, next time I might try only 2-stops. And the colour cast on mine was pretty noticeable. Looks like I need to drop some $$$ on new filters :(

Maybe instead of not having the super pass next year, they maybe just not have it for the race day. I'd still be happy to go shoot for qualifying and practice.

Compared to never22 and Borbor, its not even worth showing my stuff. Here are some from this Flickr slide show (http://www.flickr.com/photos/zalllon/sets/72157621363685524/show/).

Wow. Maybe I need to convince my friends that we need Gold seats for next year :O

Security seemed pretty lax this year compared to previous years. I should have wandered the stands more on the Friday and Saturday.

That wasn't what I felt with regards to security

One of the engineers on an IndyCar team had problems getting to work on Sunday morning because he didn't have his hard card with him. This was going from the paddock into the pits!

Perhaps down to the track there was, but no one was checking tickets at the turn 9/10 stands (tho', try and find the directions to get there :S). No hand stamps like in the past, and just a token security guard at the paddocks.

They definitely have a lot of planning to do for next years event

Since it was a first year event, I give them a bit of a pass, but it's unfortunate they couldn't find anyone from the Molson Indy days, as they knew what they were doing

1. Exhibition entrance - on friday there was 1 person
using a scanner and a laptop for the self printed tickets - so trying to process a 100 people getting of the Go train at once was just not working
Eventually they started ripping the bar code off, for scanning later

2. Fences EVERYWHERE - there was no flow to walking through the event - you were constantly being blocked by new fencing - entire corners (Turn 8) were unavailable - part of this was due to construction in some of the surrounding buildings, but it sucked

3. Security - No paddock security for Friday and Saturday - and on Sunday it was a joke - 1 security guard with a gate that let through 30 people wide - I paid $40 for the paddock pass - basically unnecessary

3. Exhibition entrance on Saturday - I had to line up with the people buying tickets - though I had bought my package 3 weeks prior --DON'T screw the people that preprinted, or you will get no advanced ticket sales

I hope next year will be better - I think it is growing pains this year
Despite all this, I had a great 3 days - after the event missing last year, and the Steelback mess the year before, I am happy someone stepped up to run it

Get rid of these sewing machines racing series and bring in a series like F1 and then you can watch real cars race. And also see real organization. Not to mention the real big money it would bring to t
Toronto. This series is a joke. Some of the ugliest cars I have ever seen!

Formula 1 is what I follow on a season basis - it is the only racing that I follow

Indy is what I can afford to go see live - once a year

Hopefully the Montreal Grand Prix will be back next year, and I will make it a financial priority

Unless you have oil money, you won't see F1.

This is the way I see Bernie wants to take things.

Hope he goes six feet under before long, the him and Nazi Max are the cancer of F1

Even with all the new rules to help overtaking, F1 is still a parade. You want to watch racing, you go watch ALMS / LMS, WTCC, MotoGP or WSBK.

Don't get me started on Rolex, those cars belong in the junkyard.
