Hi all,

Two summers ago some TPMGers took a road trip to NYC. We're thinking about doing a similar trip this year, from Friday to Sunday (on a non-holiday weekend) in July (possibly 7, 8, and 9). We rented some cars and stayed in hostels last time, and would be doing something similar again this time.

This poll is simply to suss out which destination has the most appeal to members...it is NOT a poll asking if you plan on attending -- that will come later. The destinations listed are cities that would likely have the most appeal for a roadtrip. Feel free to leave other suggestions in the comments, however, chances are very high that the trip will be to one of the above cities.

Poll will close in 1 week (next Friday), and after a destination is chosen, planning will begin.

There's usually lots of things going on in Montreal near the end of June. The french celebrate St Jean (June 24th) and the english celebrate Canada day (exactly a week later, i'm going to miss that :(), and lot's of people moving in general (national moving day). There's also the Just for Laughs festival, Jazz Festival, Formula 1, Movie festival, usually all clumped together in June/July.

I wouldnt mind going to Montreal or Boston since I have a few friends in both places.

My vote went to New York City, but I wish I could vote for all of them. My second choice would probably be Boston. I love Montreal, but I was there last summer.

New York. Of course.

I don't like cities, but I like New York
Other places make me feel like a dork
Los Angeles is for people who sleep
Paris and London, baby you can keep

New York is not for little p$ssies who scream
If you can't stand the heat, then get off my street

I like them all! I've been to Montreal recently though, so I think that I would vote for any of the other three... I'll still go ahead and choose one for the poll above. :)

I have been to NYC recently and planning to be in Montreal on the weekend of July 8th, so I picked Chicago.

But I'm up for the roadtrip, independently of the winning destination.

FYI - unless someone has a super discount, if you book at Enterprise.com months in advance, you can get a pretty phenomenal deal. Usually, depending on location - just search around a little - I know the usual cheap places, you can get a compact for 12.99/day!!! It's a few bucks more for each size up (plus insurance - unless the renter has an auto discount of course!)

It's the kind of thing it's worth booking the cars online today, b/c you just have to go online and cancel them right up to the day before. I rent from there several times a year with that deal.

I really like the idea of Montreal --- but then again... I am kinda strange -- I would much rather head to Churchhill, Manitoba to shoot polar bears, then some american city.

I chose Montreal strictly because it's the only Canadian option. If we did a road trip to the states, I wouldn't be able to go. My passport is with my parents. :(

Maybe next year for NYC, but not this year.

B&H is in New York, which means if we go to New York, i'd be leaving more money behind that I don't actually have. I have done NYC once briefly, and I really don't think it can be sufficiently experienced in one weekend.

Chicago I've done briefly for a wedding, but it was sorta in and out.

Boston I have not been to, unsure what is there that i'd really want to see.

Now Montreal... I've been there once, and I have to return to owe my friend who's going to Concordia the favour of visiting him anyway. Spending 2 days there, I wish I had more time, and it's close enough that a 2 day trip is manageable. 5 hour drive vs 10 or more for the other options means more shooting time, and less time cramped in cars. Go Montreal!

It's totally possible to do a good chunk of NYC in 2.5 days...I've done it many times. :)

I just got back from NYC a few hours ago and didn't do half the stuff we wanted to , that means any reason to go back is a good one .

I have plans to go to NYC in May and Montreal sometime in July. My vote goes to Chicago, haven't been there yet.

The architecture in Chicago is something to behold. I had an opportunity to spend a day and a half there a couple of years ago but one full day I was attending a conference. I'd jump at the chance to go back on a photography jaunt. Wonderful photo ops.

How long is the drive roughly anyway ?

Well all depends, but on average I would say about 10 hrs. With pit stops.

Hi there. Is BH cheaper than Henrys and Vistek? How about custom duties coming back here?

10 hrs is about right...maybe a little less if you're lucky.

New York City it is!

If you like Montreal in the winter, you should love it in the summer :) Absolutely beautiful city.
