I wanted to talk about software for a bit. For people just getting photography the cost of software can be high for some people.

The typical photography software for stills is Adobe photoshop and lightroom are the industry standard. PLUS the cost of decent computer to run them.
The Adobe CC subscription paid service has its pros and cons. Thing I like about that it's always updated and can import raws direct. Compared to older version where depending on the age of the camera you might have to convert to dng(digital negatives).

The downside it's ongoing cost. Now it the long run it's a business expense and think it good if you making a living off it.

For people just starting out with a entry dslr and just want to look into it. I have some good news of Free similar (not the Same) tools that work well on older pc.

I have 5-6 year laptop running Linux mint and have darktable(aka Lightroom) and gimp(aka photoshop). This runs surprisingly fast on the computer. I am able to transfer raws directly and can tether for live view. Free updates are good to.

The question why do still use Adobe because some more advanced plugs better image calculations.

I can get Similar results in dark table just take more tweaking.

I would like to know what you guys think?

I think a lot of people don't need or use the power of Photoshop and/or Lightroom.
Photoshop Elements, ACDSee are quite powerful and very inexpensive.
I was running Darktable and Gimp for a while but just got a MacBook Pro so switched to On1 Photoraw and also have Luminar installed.

I agree with you that it not need for everyone. If you plan I working with a photo studio or are doing commercial photography then it's the industry norm.

I think need to plan out where they want they photography to go. Start off with free software and upgrade when you need to.

I think darktable is a little harder to learn than lightroom but if you switch over from darktable into lightroom its just quicker to adapt.

Thanks for your input!

How do you like using Luminar? I have been looking at it but had yet to find anyone using it.

I like On1 Photoraw way better so far. Luminar is very very slow to browse and find a photo. Takes forever to show a preview.
Once the photo is opened it is pretty straight forward to edit. For the extra $20 I would pick On1 Photoraw.
Both of these products are really new and features are being added all the time.

I have been using an older version of Lightroom and i7 quad core with 24GB RAM PC ....So far I am very happy with it.
I have tried the free versions in past but I didnt like them much.
Since Photoshop CS2 is free I have loaded it in all my computers so far.
