I used to paddle the Gull. sharp rocks but great training spot. there's a canoe (oc) slalom race in september that's cool to watch. if you can catch the national kayak team trials, if they go there again, that'd be what I would see.

nice shots.

depending on who is paddling on any given day, keep an eye on the dam for boaters running that drop. it's bumpy one and is a speedy ride after hitting the pool

everyone knows Viktor -- he is a staple of the Gull River white water park --- he is there literally EVERY time I go.

David, Victor told me September 7 is the Open Boat (Canoe) White Water Races. Its a world class event and the most difficult. He recommends going to get some really good stuff.

hmmmm..... I might have to check it out on the way home - because I won't be available otherwise - I am shooting the Haliburton 100 mile race on Saturday the 6th, and it goes until the wee hours of the morning, and a followup lunch on the Sunday 7th.

Race is also on Sunday 8th (usually finals). Gates will be hung Thursday so if yer in the area, you'll probably see paddlers running and fine tuning gate placement.

Well, we'll have to see how my schedule works out - I am actually up to the forest as of tomorrow mid-day, then we come home on Thursday, then I go back up early Friday AM - and depending on the schedule for the welcome event on the Friday - I may be able to hit the rapids on Friday before going to the forest -- I am sure some folks will be test running the water that day. And Sunday - I am probably not leaving until mid-afternoon, so we'll see - I might be too late to catch it.

I am shooting the Haliburton Forest ultimate 100 mile race that weekend - which starts at 6am on Saturday, and they have 24 hours to complete it. There is also a 50 mile, and 12km race.

I had no chance to get there -- my Haliburton 100 mile race commitments consumed the whole weekend - but then again - I can't complain, as I am making money off the photo's I am selling to the racers....

Yes, well - I was the official race photographer, and I got into the trail where there was nobody else taking pictures of the runners, plus I had the best spot in the house for the finish line... Sales are slow, but steady - I've already made over $100 in a week .. $5 per image.

incidentally - that photo of the bridge repair above -- the new bridge was installed shortly after our visit, and it was done in time for last weekend's race. - thank god - that was part of their route.
