Hello all,

I was just wondering: what inspires you, or gives you the motivation to shoot? Post some links to interesting websites/blogs/photojournals with really captivating photography.

The goal of this thread is for it to be the center of ideas for all the members who occassionaly run out of ideas from time to time.

I'll start with some interesting links and personal favorites (my apologies if some are reposts):

I have an inspriation book. It is a clipping of articles and photos which I see in photo magazine's. I clip out the photos or articles which I relate to, and moves my creative juices. It's a great motovational tool, and when you are feeling uncreative, look through your book, and remember the things you wanted to do, or inspired you... and it will give you new inspiration. It doesn't have to be complicated, I just use a sketch book available at just about any art store, and some clue and scissors will do the trick. Its a tad like scrapbooking... but with a different meaning!

I like the idea of a central thread where we share LINKS TO IMAGES not taken by ourselves that inspire us. This is as good a spot as any to do that so this thread is now stickied. Please do not post the images themselves in this thread - while it's not illegal it's just good etiquette to not share something that is not yours but rather link to it. Links to sites or direct links to images only please.

Though I'm usually not big on composited images of any kind or too much post processing I really like Theirry Cohen's Darkened Cities images even though they're composites with considerable post-processing. The results are great.

Not sure how inspirational it is, though it is a great shot, the new portrait of Barack Obama is looked at over on PetaPixel. Wow that man has aged. Poor guy.

This is more on the inspiration side: Zack Arias Signal and Noise. I now have a form response for anyone blathering on about how full frame is everything:

Noise

After reading Thomas Leuthard's online books about street photography, it was the only thing I wanted to shoot. This is essentially how I shoot my street photography now. Love the spontaneity and directness of the situation.

Dave's stuff is worth a look. At least the free stuff is. I've never paid for anything. I was all set to and found he left the iTunes/books network. So I didn't.

It was asked what inspires one to shoot, I belong to pwocontests.com, which is a photography competition website where anyone can sign up and play along. Challenges happen every week, with a two week shooting period, there's a best of the month and some other random challenges thrown in. The founder of the website lives in Milton, so he's just around the corner.

Not always a fan of the challenge topics, but at least it gets me shooting things I otherwise wouldn't.

Second part of the 2 part "Jeff Jacobson on Making Pictures For Yourself" interesting why he was kicked out of Magnum.

A Final Embrace: The Most Haunting Photograph from Bangladesh

What inspires me is it shows that even in this jaded over photographed world a single photograph can still transcend above all other forms of media.

Ok, ignore that he's using a kabillion dollars worth of gear as it's not necessary for the results: Blizzard Studio Shoot!

Here's a question for you folks, do any of you participate or belong to any challenge websites?

I used to play at dpchallenge.com but now only participate at pwocontests.com. The only reason I'm bringing this up is the most recent link from ions is an article by Joey Lawrence. Turns out he used to be a member at dpchallenge honing his skills before moving to greener pastures. You can see his evolution as a photographer throughout the years by competing in the challenges there.

edit - I use sites like those linked to force myself to shoot topics I otherwise would not, still life photography for example.
