Ok here are some photos that I took on the weekend in Edwards Gardens with the 55-200. Minimal PP on my iPad using Snapseed.

Lol. Congrats on the purchase. Ummm probably not very soon for me. First because my camera budget was drained and then some by the over-priced 5DIII. No regrets but it is overpriced. The next camera items for me will likely have to do with support or an UWA if Canon gets around to releasing something of interest. For reasons it won't be very soon that actually have something to do with the Fuji itself the electronic viewfinder is a great innovation, but not yet at the level I would want/need it. Remember how blind I am so a very clear viewfinder is critical to me. Another major reason is I have no use for it. It looks like a really fun camera for casual use and taking street images I'd do nothing with, but I have no time for that sort of thing right now. When I shoot now it's very deliberate and the DSLRs work plenty fine for that. I think the next iteration of the X-E1 could have a viewfinder that works well enough for me and maybe I'll have the time (or I'll be shooting the kid with it? who knows) that it would be worth looking very closely at. It is overpriced too. $1k for what I would use it for and how much these things are going to depreciate is a bit much. I imagine at some point there will be a nifty mirrorless camera of some sort in my possession and I like Fuji's stuff best right now of what is available. Maybe Canon will have the M sorted out a bit better by then or something more interesting? Or Olympus too...

I doubt Canon will become any better, they are pretty well rooted in the existing offerings. I hate the EVF, but OVF on the other hand is a pleasure to use. I still haven't setup the camera for efficient use, but it feels good in hand. Plus, I paid what we agreed should have been the appropriate price for it :)

I don't mind Canon's offering really. Once they have the AF sorted, and allegedly they have, it's a decent camera for the price they're charging. Completely different than the Fuji but perhaps not enough to justify the price difference. Some of the new Fuji cameras certainly do have a lot charm. Will be interested to hear a review from you.

Woot!

http://petapixel.com/2013/06/25/fujifil ... e-updates/

Fuji has a couple firmware updates for the xpro1 and xe1, the late July update will give "peaking" functionality! Sick!

I just downloaded my "test shots" around waterfront and wow, Fuji sure knows how to make sensors shine. Beats my 7d hands down.

It's quite a bit newer than your 7D too. That's ok though, it's complimentary that it's still a bar of comparison after all this time.

Well I now have a leg in the Fuji camp!!! Picked up the Xpro-1 and 35mm f/1.4... it's a different beast compared to my D700, I need to study the manual more.

Ok, so after some shooting with the toy camera and testing the limits of it in post, I came to a very interesting and intriguing conclusion.

Image

This was shot into the 5-6pm June sun, which isn't particularly flattering or forgiving at this time of the year. Later processed with -80 highlight and +100!!!!!! shadow recovery. The original front bench is pitch black. Can I ever do it with my Canon? Well, yeah, if I want a super noisy pattern lines in my shadows I can. Fuji sensor, on the other hand, is keeping it cool and not even bothered. What this means? You can actually increase your dynamic range to the point of not needing HDR. Yes, you heard me. :)

PotatoEye do you have the x100 or the newer x100s? The newer version as the x-trans sensor (and it can do an even better job).

I will most likely, once I save up money again, get the 23mm f1.4 when it comes out (although I really want the 56mm f1.2 first). Both of those lenses would complete my kit (I really like using primes, but had to get the telephoto zoom, because more of necessity. BUT with focus peaking coming - my 105mm in manual may actually be more useable and get rotated back into my bag :-)

Mine's a Kipon. But several manufacturers make them, it's just a piece of machined metal so really shouldn't have any issues with any of them, even the really cheap ones.

Today is the second pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market (yes they are back to every last Sunday again - last years experiment seems to have ended) and I am going to give the new x100S its first real workout. I have had it for a couple of weeks and done some test shooting, but today will be its first working shoot.

Sorry, didn't see this until now. I was there from 11:30 AM to 2:00PM. A bit slow due to Pride drawing off the crowds and performers. I am thinking of being back for the July Sunday. My favourite is always the last one in October which benefits from Halloween. I will likely do a TPMG event again on that Sunday in October as I have in the past.

Good. I am pretty happy so far. Having the X100 I wondered if the X100S was worth picking up. I am not sure if the changes would make most people say they need to buy it, but I feel happy. The camera AF does feel way more responsive. Everything that I focused on is in sharp focus. I didn't try using the manual focus for this shoot, but I have played with it and it is interesting. A huge improvement over the original X100 manual focusing.

Looking at the images they just shine. Clear and detailed and sharp. Comparing them to photos taken in the same area last year they just seem to have better colour, better range and more detail.

It is very cool using this camera as no one seems to notice it. Very few people react and even if they do most of the time they just kind of look at you; not like when you aim an DSLR at them. Its very easy to use this as a shoot from the hip camera as well.

So yes, I'm happy with the X100S and glad I upgraded.

DG

Ahhh too bad it isn't, then you'd really be cool instead of people unsure if you were or not and posing as someone cool.
