Zack Arias review is done in good humour but I can't believe the Leica would be sitting in the same bar as the rest:)

I reeeeeaaaally like and dislike the x-trans love here...I'm so tempted to trade in my NEX-6 and get an x-pro 1. The only thing holding me back is my Sony alpha lenses wouldn't pull double duty anymore.

Well that's not true. There are countless adapters that will let u mount any kind of lens to the Fuji. Granted it will be manual focus.

Review by Dpreview of the Fuji 14mm 2.8R. They gave a Gold Rating

http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/fuj ... f-14-f2-8r

I recently purchased this lens myself and finally gave a good work out this past weekend. A couple of photos are posted in the photo sharing section (or on my flicker page). It really is an awesome lens and worth every penny!

This may be a general question but I have a Fujifilm X-E1 and I'm new to Adobe LR 4.3 (on Win7). When I import pictures in the larger thumbnail / preview area the pictures are kind of grainy with a lot of noise but when I open the picture in explorer, it doesn't look like that. So it's hard to tell whether my images are good when I preview them in LR. Anybody have that issue?

Also do most X shooters shoot with RAW + JPEG or just JPEG only?

For Lightroom - you need to update to version 4.4 - raw support is much improved. I personally don't use Lightroom so I am not sure why it's displaying that way. See if the update corrects.

Because my Raw workflow is still not support for the Fuji x-trans sensor I shoot both Raw+jpeg. This could change in the future, but for now I shoot both.

Hope that helps.

J.

Ahead of the announcements tomorrow (55-200 and updated lens road-map). A new rumour has the 56mm f1.4 delayed until early jan 2014 but upgraded to a f1.2!!! Sweet!

Ok it's now official. The 55-200 f3.5-4.8 - it will be available at the end of May. The 56 f1.2 is also official. And we also have a new rumour of a major firmware update for the original x-trans cameras later in the summer. Focus peaking perhaps?

More info here.

http://www.fujirumors.com/first-look-xf ... -r-lm-ois/

Also it looks like Apple has finally made it to the party and updated their cameraRaw to support the x-trans sensor. How will of a job it does, I'm still waiting for some reviews by people.

I traded my NEX-6 and a lens for the X-Pro1 body only, and I have to say it's a bitter sweet experience.

First the bad...the EVFs just don't compare...lower resolution I can deal with, but the lag is something I have to adjust to. The zoom feature is pretty cool but I really miss peaking.

The good? I love the size and weight, the retro styling is what sold me but the ergonomics is pretty good with the grip.

The great? I have 2 full frames known for great high ISO performance and I dare say the x-trans sensor at least matches but I feel like it surpasses. The grain at 6400 ISO is so fine I rather like it, there doesn't seem to be any chroma noise, and the dynamic range is holding up really well it's shocking for an APS-C.

Too bad I don;t have any Fuji glass to fully appreciate the experience yet, using 30 year old Minolta mds with an adapter at the moment. It'll be a while before I can get some fuji lenses but this camera's definitely a keeper.

I forgot to say the newest version of Photoshop and Camera Raw seem to work well with the raw files from the fuji. I'm pushing the shadows and highlights as far as they can go and it's pretty impressive.

It's a complete different beast with the Fuji lenses and the ability to autofocus! I love my 35mm f1.4 and my new 14mm f2.8. Going to pick up the 55-200 once it's shipping. I find manually focusing my nikon 105mm f2.5 can be difficult for moving things.

If I could get 1 Fuji lens which is probably whats going to end up happening, it's very likely to be the 23mm 1.4. A 35mm equivalent at 1.4 seems a pretty good all rounder to me...though I have a feeling it's going to be near 800-1000 new...sigh...

The 55-200mm 3.5-4.8 is now available and it sounds like its hitting Canadian stores as we speak. I am just waiting for a certain TPMG member who works at a certain camera store to let me know when their stock arrives!!

Actually the zeiss 32mm and 12mm lenses are out now. The 50mm is suppose to be out this fall/winter and maybe on my radar if its a 1:1 macro.

With that said I'm quite happy with my fuji 35mm and 14mm.

So far I have only seen the Zeiss lenses listed at B&H. And WAY too expensive as well. The 50 macro could be cool if it is faster at focusing then the Fuji 60 which I tried out last spring at the Exposure Show and was pretty sluggish.

zeiss lenses are in stock at Aden. played with them. only really interested in the 12mm. SOOOO WIDE and silly sharp. but the $1250 price tag still makes me want to buy an x20 and not bother going with an interchangable x-series.

for a lot less money (but still expensive) is the fuji 14mm - its not quite as crazy wide (but its still pretty damn wide) and its also crazy sharp and has almost no distortion. Its a great little lens. I am hoping, once I get back from my work trip, to really get a chance to play with the new 55-200 telephoto zoom. I wasn't planning on buying any zooms with my x-pro1, but the need for something in the telephoto range (having sold all of my nikon gear) was too great. So I got one. Looks nice so far.

Ok so I finally got thr chance to play with my new 55-200mm 3.5-4.8. First off let me say its definitely heavier, and faster, then the average kit lens. So far it seems very sharp at all focal lengths, even wide open. Quite impressive. It focuses fairly quickly and silently (although quickly is subjective considering the x-pro1 isn't very fast at focusing to begin with). It does have focusing issues in low light, especially at the long end where the max aperture starts to get smaller. I cannot say exactly when it really starts to have focusing issues in low light, but I'd say once the max aperture goes past 4 it starts to have issues, and at 200mm and 4.8 it has a great deal of trouble autofocusing. Keep in mind this has little to do with the lens itself and more to do with the fuji's contrast focusing system. I suspect that future camera models with built in phase detection will resolve much of this issue (and keep it closer to DLSR low light focusing).

Overall I found this lens to be excellent, the images it produces are excellent (at least so far when viewed on my ipad screen). It is well made, and optically very good. Now I don't have much experience with IS, as my only lens that ever had it was my Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR1. While I found that did a good job, the IS on thr fuji is definitely a couple of stops, if not more, better. I was easily getting relatively sharp images at 200mm with 1/20 of a second (and slightly slower) shutter speeds. I think that says a lot to the IS and that the overall weight of thr camera and lens makes it easier to handhold.

So for those of you with a fuji x-pro1 or x-e1, if you want a telephoto lens, this is definitely worth the money. While at $700 it's not cheap, but given the quality, it's actually reasonably priced.

I will try and post a photo or two in the next couple of days.

J.
