Awesome, the Authors Note is interesting too, seems that it's a pretty common thread in a lot of forums haha.

I wonder where Hammerkina is held? In Hammersmith, London, England perhaps?

I enjoy articles like this because they are amusing, and hopefully bring to light some of the more silly comments 'we' (in general) make. Thanks for sharing!

If carpenters were like photographers they would be trying to straighten their framing after they've nailed it all together.

This behaviour is pretty much universal in Western society (could be in other societies too I just dunno) in anything where there is choice. If anyone cares, and I know that is unlikely, this is Freud's theory of the narcissism of minor differences and some cognitive convergence working together. We do this by creating a reality that validates the choices we make so we know we're better than everybody else and can believe we thinked real good about the purchase we made. Unless you choose Canon, that's just sound, rational, unbiased reasoning. :D

No, one part in that statement is wrong. I am poor. But we both don't have to worry about getting fresh water and heat, do we?

All I have to say is look up bench planes. Things like Stanley planes from the turn of the century to Lie Nielson tool works or even the Varitas planes. Look it up, its gonna make us look like 'online trolling amateurs'. Woodworkers do sit online arguing over tools instead of doing the work, just saying. :D

Ever read forums for other pass-times and jobs? Carpenters are like photographers. Motorcyclists are like photographers. IT people are like photographers. Japanese car enthusiasts are like photographers. Gardeners are like photographers. It's the internet.

I also remember comparing christmas toys, with friends when I was a toddler. He-Man vs a Transformer, it didn't matter. Everything was fair game.

I would say its people in general. Street motorcyclists will debate at coffee shops, internet isn't a requirement. Interestingly enough, those who ride motorcycles at the track aren't subjected to pointless debates as your track times speak for you. You tend to see a more humbled participant edgar to learn (at the track). It seems anything that is not quantifiable by science will fall victim to theories and tech speculation. Photography is perfect for this – its an art not a science.

Shocks, springs, tires, pressure, damping, rebound rates, fuel octane ... What tracks do you go to? Unless they are illegal in class or secret in between racing you are either adjusting or fixing or talking carpenter stuff :D

Then I guess you've never been at a post track day or race 'bench racing' session
