OMG :D I might actually be able to make it to this meeting, too! If my boss decides to NOT give me a sunday shift. So far, she seems pretty decided on not letting me work, so... *crosses fingers*

Send a link to Mr. Hobby (aka Mr. Strobist), he'd love to feature stuff like this.

why not during the day? when you have people on the streets that might want to be photographed ... i've alwayed had the idea of setting up a random backdrop and photographing whoever would want to be photographed especially when you find strange characters in kensington

food for thought

i'm a maybe for this, not sure if i'll be shooting maybe come out see what you guys are up to

Sun will go down around 9pm so theres lots of time. Doing it while it's getting darker and darker is a bit tough, but its better for those who have triggers that won't synch over 1/200-1/250.

Well... only 3 of us showed. But, photography wise, I would say it was a successful night. As we got there at 6:30, all of the shops were slowly shutting down, this gave us space to set up anywhere really. The traffic was really good up until about 7:30-8:00pm when it died down quite a bit. If we did it again, I would probably start 30min to an hour earlier. I think Sunday was perfect, if all of the stalls were to be open, it would be crazy. No one gave us any trouble at all, everyone was pretty cool about it.

The umbrella light was pretty successful, I need to make a few modifications, but it's about 90% ready.

Yeah, where were you guys?

I'm too tired to process the portraits, here's a HDR I managed to do before I collapse...

His shirt reads: When I die, make it look like I was doing something cool. Kinda macabre when you think of it, that one would die and need a chalk outline.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if they added beer and bratwurst to the study.

Lots of work put in there and it looks pretty nice but for $22 bucks you could have just bought this 43" one premade?? http://cgi.ebay.ca/Umbrella-Softbox-Soft-Brolly-Box-Reflector-Studio-43-/230602283117?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b0f7986d

Or why not start with a cheap silver umbrella and 2/3 of the work is already done??

Cause it doesn't look anything like a real umbrella, no handle, the stem is short and flimsy, you can't guarantee what you're buying is actually water resistant, etc. The one you linked has the diffuser ending right at the edge of the umbrella as well, which you have no way of hiding. It was the first thing I considered, but it just doesn't fit into what I had envisioned in my head.

Exactly! Maybe we should develop a new product and put it on the market? ;)

WE? 8)

Well, since I gave the idea of MAKING it into a new product... :)

Now there's entrepreneurial spirit! :)
