Hello TPMGers!

My fundraising company, The Spotlight Project, is organizing a photography competition to raise funds for a really innovative arts organization called Regent Park Focus Youth Media Arts Centre. The competition, called "One Thousand Words", challenges photographers to take a photo that responds to the statement:

Hi there PotatoEye. Thanks for addressing this! Just an amateur photographer myself. Can you let me know what kind of print option would be more suitable? I'd love to offer something more in line with digital photographers for the prize.

12x18
16x24
20x30

And so on. Basically a 2:3 ratio

Thanks so much Elisha, I think I'll get our prize changed to fit that dimension. You learn something new everyday! :D

That's exactly the type of submissions we're looking for! Doesn't have to be flattering photos. It's all about framing how you see your/a community. Good old gentrification is Regent Park's middle name.

<sarcasm>Agree, it is the wrong print size for modern 135 film shooters too.</sarcasm> Too bad they still haven't fix this for the past some 70 odd years. Maybe we need to learn to dealt with it, just maybe.

yeah, sorry I forgot the good ol' 35mm film shooters :P
I'd recommend tailoring the print size aspect ratio to the winning photos - that's the perfect world solution

Disclaimer: If my lack of film photography knowledge offends somebody...suck it up and accept my apologies

Yes but if I crop to one of your standard sizes then it would be ruined and I might as well throw it in the trash.

Thanks PotatoEye... good idea. I'll update folks when it changes.

So go ahead and submit your photos, our sponsor will likely be able to change the print size aspect ratio to your needs.

The ratio is interchangable.
35mm is 36x24 = 3:2
DX 1.5 is 24x16 = 3:2
DX 1.6 is 22.5x15 = 3:2

The DX formats are rounded up but you get the idea. 3:2 across the board

Hey folks,

Just spoke to our printing and framing sponsor. We can print the winner's photos size in the size/dimension of their preference, as long as it is within the 16 x 20/ 16 x 24 size range.

Cheers! :D

what about the copyright of the submitted photos?

If you submit your photos, you are giving us (The Spotlight Project) permission to use them on our website (as the contest in online), and for our twitter and facebook updates. If we want to use the photo for any marketing purposes beyond that, then we will seek the photographer's permission beforehand. Other than that, the copyright of the images remains the photographers.

Does that answer your question rhommel?

Hey Folks!

Just a note to say that the max image size that you can upload through the website is 2mb, but if your image is a bit bigger (3mb - 4mb) then you can send us the photos via email at info@thespotlightproject.ca and we'll post it from our end. If it's larger than 4mb, I'm afraid we have to compress it as our website becomes very tired and angry with us.

Cheers! Looking forward to your submissions!
Gabrielle
