I'm willing to wait until next Saturday too. It looks like the peak may be in the middle of the week, but based on the current information, it appears that we have a better chance of blossoms next weekend than this weekend.

The Nature Centre has posted that the florets are starting to extend. Looks like this weekend will be the one.

Alas, I have been called on a prior engagement and won't make the official event.

Ah well. I will be there with my Mom on the Sunday, and will likely show up to get what I can on some random week night.

I saw a cherry blossom tree (not in high park, somewhere else) halfway in bloom which made me hopeful for this weekend!

took this today at about 7:40 pm.

yeah photo slaughterhouse (though I don't really really know what that means). There was a chinese photo group with kid model taking turns to take pictures with all sorts of gear and lights and reflectors.

Even at that late hour, I almost could not find a place to park, so if you're planning to go at a convenient time for most, good luck finding a spot!

So sorry I missed it! I was so looking forward to my first outing and meeting members, but I put out my back yesterday. Since I am new, I don't know if and where people post their pictures. Please let me know. Would love to see your shots.

Some non-TPMG photographers were telling me about the 'guy with the supertele' stalking around the Cherry Blossoms and wondering exactly what the purpose was in bringing such a long lens to an environment that doesn't exactly scream out for it. Their assessment was that it was either photographic ballscratching or a desire to photograph the swans on the far side of Grenadier Pond, or more likely a combination of the two. What's the minimum focusing distance on that thing, 11m? Regardless it was a good way to stand out in a very crowded field.

The Toronto Ornthological Club had a walk in High Park scheduled for 7:30 that morning, the walk having been scheduled a month ago, and I had been invited by a non-tpmg photographer friend.

I would think high park would rank pretty high on the short list of places within the city borders where such a lens would actually be useful.

Decent argument. Prove it visually. Let's see the fruits of labour from hauling that beastie around. :D
