I stumbled across this brand whilst buying some film at, as much as I hate to say it, Vistek.

At least the dude that helped me was decent and didn't have the usual "Vistek snobbery" thing going on.

Anyway, I picked up 10 sheets 8.5x11" to try out.

Man.. I'm impressed. This is a seriously sweeeeeet B&W printing paper if you have a good photo printer (I'm using my Epson 3800).

I printed my "New Links" photo on it and whoa nelly it's nice.

I printed a Tmax 3200 shot @ 1600 image and it too was beautiful.

Ya ya.. I know.. wet printing is the best way blah blah blah but seeing as how I do not have that facility here in my condo and I don't wanna go all the way downtown to get it done, I opt to process the film here, scan it in high res, import to lightroom then print.

Anyway, I just thought if people were looking at paper options outside of the "regular" stuff (Canon, Epson, Hanhemule etc.) that this paper seems to be reasonably priced (25 sheets 310 g/m2 for $29 CDN) and produces great B&W results.

Cheers,
Dave

+1 to all comments above about the paper.

All of their papers are quite nice but if you can get your hands on older packs of them they are even better! B/W with some of the crispest lines and gradients that you can print. but beware of printing colour prints on some of the papers as the tone of the paper's tend to lean to the warm side which throws off some images drastically

Good to know Dave. I've been hearing great reviews on this paper.

BTW, have you tried your colorburst RIP? I think I've read several feedbacks on this. http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11526. I'm tempted to do it for reasons I can print beyond 37" but this is only one of the things it can do. I'll do it after I've bought a new pc

I've never tried a RIP, but after reading that link (thanks for that btw :) ) I don't know if I even can use the RIP.

I'm still running Tiger on Mac (OsX) and I never have issues with the 3800 once I read Eric Chan's awesome article on printing with the 3800.
http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/dp ... kflow.html

My colour and B&W prints always come out as I see them on screen :) (save for when I need to do a head cleaning on the printer that is *LOL*)

Cheers,
Dave

Same here with Eric Chan . RIP is very expensive and only print houses use it albeit we only get a foot in the door with the freebie version when buying the printer, seems to be absolute waste not to try it. I wouldn't use it for most prints but I'm sure there will be some practical uses when printing volume when I get a new computer anyways, can't even use surface blur on mine without crashing QQ.

Thanks Dave for the recommendation- there is a very positive review on the Luminous Landscape as well.

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/revie ... tale.shtml

I picked up a package today- I'll give it a whirl later this week.

Have you tried any of Canson's other papers?

Incidentally, do you or does anyone else use/have recommendations for a good matte fine art paper (both for colour and b & w)? When I print with matte, I usually use Epson Velvet Fine Art which I like a lot, but would like something a bit heavier/with a bit more weight. Sorry to hijack your thread a bit.

Thanks!

Depending on what type of printer you are using I always recommend Inkpress Papers.

If you are using a printer that accepts rolls with 3 inch cores then I highly recommend Inkpress Cooi Tone Rag 300 2-sided.

http://www.inkpresspaper.com/profiles.asp?PaperID=20

It is a truly beautiful paper as well. Canson also makes a few other great papers which may be suitable. I find cool tone works well for both colour and B/W Where as I prefer warm tone papers on B/W's only as they add a bit of richness to gradations. Try Canson's Product Catalog for even more types of their papers

I went to Vistek to for something else but ended up with a 13x19 of the Baryta lol. I'll do a test print on Sunday.

http://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/s ... paper.html Not endura but I'm decided to use this paper for a project for this year. Lots of time to wait for a sale

Thanks s.poborsa- I'm using a Epson 3800, so only sheet paper for me.

Thanks for the recommendation though. I did like the look of the Canson papers in colour- I'll give a few of them a try to see what I like.

Cheers!

Appearantly They also have sheets. I just noticed it now....So that would also work, but if you like the Canson why not just stick with it right.

I just can't get over how "good" this paper is for B&W.
I'm not sold on it for colour work but for B&W (mind you, I've just been printing B&W film that I've scanned) it's awesome.

The weight and look of it reminds me of old school Ilford RC paper - now I wonder what their fibre based stuff would be like...

I printed this shot off today (Silvertone 100, shot with Leica IIIf & Summitar @ f2):

It's exactly as it appears on screen. I'm impressed at this paper..

Cheers,
Dave

Do you calibrate your printer as well? What is your profile for the paper?

I used the Monaco X-Rite on my monitor (NEC 26") and I used Eric Chan's profiles. Luckily he has a Canson Baryta paper profile on his website :)

Cheers,
Dave
