So I bought a Canon 580 EX II speed light along with a rayflash ring light:

Allows for some cool stuff. For example, did this test shot for a clothing designer (below). I was able to use the internal light meter and exposure properly for the background sky, and then used the flash/rayflash to fill in the light for the model. The rayflash really helps to smooth out shadows and not make the flash appear harsh.

Snapped the picture last week at the Toronto beaches (Queen St East & Neville Park Blvd):

good for you, I didn't trust "adapter" for this much of $, and bought a macro flash for around 150 instead, TTL only

It does look great but for same reason as above, I am skeptical.

I'm waiting for a China imitation version at 1/10th of the price :)

nice shot, but i'm not sure i see the benefit of using a ring flash unit here instead of say, a light modifier on your flash to soften it up.

Indeed, I'd be interested in seeing the real shadow wrap beauty shot, especially catchlights
