I just want to learn how to properly use my flash and I guess I need to understand the basic of lighting as well so my best bet is to go and take a short course (yeah, I can't stand it if it's too long  ) and try to understand as much as possible. So would <a href="http://www.vistek.ca/events/seminars/569/creative-lighting.aspx>this</a> be a good course to take?? Has anyone taken it before?? Thanks so much for your input.

you can learn a whole lot from here http://www.strobists.blogspot.com/ and they have practice exercises too.

there's also a link out there that lets you simulate the position of a strobe and see the results. kinda lazy to find it right now so if anyone can chime in that would be great.

You should have come out when we held our strobist sessions ...  I wouldn't pay $125 for a basic seminar, but that's just me.

Yeah, but I need to learn the basic and I don't mind if I have to pay rather than being jumped at for no reason :P

For Canon users check out:
http://super.nova.org/DPR/

There's also a lot of general stuff there too, but there is Canon specific stuff there.

As far as I remember, Piglet did come out to one of those strobist meets (first one if I remember correctly)

that site caters to the average enthusiast. if you read through their 101 it will give you a really good insight on how to start. just have a look, it's not as intimidating as it seems.

What I can suggest is practice practice practice .. No matter how much zack arias, Joe mcnally and chase jarvis blogs I read I still learn way more from trial and error.. Just go out on free days and mess around
