Now, if only i had a camera worth putting this on, i agree that it being a G lens for the price is a bit annoying as i can't use it on my F3 now.

This is a totally noob question, but I thought all nikon lenses can fit on all nikon bodies, is that not the case anymore? My Nikon friend was telling me that that was one of the reasons why Nikon is "better" than Canon.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought all FX lenses can be used on any DX and FX based bodies and that the old D40 and D60 (??) bodies didn't have the gears to drive non-motorized lenses so you basically have to MF? And on some lenses, they don't relay distance info? Confusing...

oh it will fit on my F3 but a G lens needs electronic aperture control why my old manual camera does not have. A late modle film body would be fine though yes.

For anyone interested.
Downtown Camera has the 16-35 F4 VR G in stock now.

I played with it a bit over lunch.

Not bad, but I need to snag a card and get down there to try it and look at the images.

$1399 is their listed price for that lens.

Cheers,
Dave

Sure, any F-mount lense will fit on any Nikon F-mount body... whether they work (aperture, AF, metering, etc.) is a different matter.

I have the 14-24, and putting VR on a lens that wide is just silly. I don't see the point either.

Fully agree. Pointless to do so.
But never underestimate the value of marketing.
