Im using a Canon Rebel T1i, and I have all these RAW files that are .CR2. CS3 doesn't recognize the format and open in camera raw is greyed out in bridge.
I tried changing the .CR2 to .cr2 but that didn't work either.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Those links are for the latest Camera Raw 5.5, which is for CS4 only. CS3 cannot be updated to open T1i RAW file. (If someone knows how to make Camera Raw 5.5 works in CS3, please do share :) )

The general Camera RAW page is here for Windows

One workaround is to use the DNG converter to covert the CR2 into Adobe DNG first before opening it in Bridge.

You can use Adobe Bridge to open your CR2 files and then edit in PS if you don't already use Bridge. I'll do most of my stuff using Lightroom/Bridge before opening it in PS.

Doesn't Bridge also use adobe camera raw to open them?

The answer is that I have to convert the raw file to DNG files using a DNG Converter and then they will open in Bridge and CS3. Its an extra step and now I have double of all my photos, the original raws and now these DNG's.

I can't imagine people would put up with this. Im going to run out of storage space when each file is 15mb. The only answer I can see is to upgrade to CS4.
Which ain't happening anytime soon. :-)

Here's a fix from the Adobe forum for users who have updated to Camera RAW 4.3.x and still can't view their CR2 files...

So if you can only see the raw icon and not the raw images in Bridge, and you have the new Plug-in v 4.6 installed, this is what you do.

1 - Close Bridge (and Photoshop)
2 - Download the previous Plug-in v 4.3.1 if you do not still have it.
3 - Go to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug ins/CS3/File Formats in your HD (NOT the Library in the users folder)
4 - Place the Plug-in 4.3.1 in the File Formats folder
5 - Open Bridge and see that the raw images are images and not icons
6 - Close Bridge (and Photoshop)
7 - Go back to Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug ins/CS3/File Formats this time installing Plug-in v 4.6.
Now I made a new folder in the File Formats folder that I called OldPlugins and placed plug-in v4.3.1 in it and I have not had any problems with it. If this does not work for you (like the person above) put the OldPlugin somewhere else.
8 - Open Bridge and the raw images should be raw images and not icons.

Looks like Camera RAW v 4.6 is as far as CS3 is being supported.

Yes .. the point is that Camera 4.6 does not support your camera - Canon t1i - so your choices are to upgrade to CS4 or use Canon's DPP (Digital Photo Professional) software to read the raw (.cr2) file or the DNG converter (yuk).

Another way is to use Lightroom. Lightroom can link itself with CS3, replacing Bridge altogether, and it's cheaper than upgrading to CS4...

You can get Lightroom 3 Beta at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom3

You've got until April 2010 to decide if you like it. :D

As well, with Lightroom you might not even need photoshop, unless you're doing major retouching or design etc
