So who's all down with it... we started chatting about this in another thread, but we'll consolidate here. I guess it'll be from Dealextreme or Maxsaver.. depending on how "reasonable" it is..

rx = receivers tx= transmitter
S.umb = shoot thru white umbrella
B.umb = reflective silver

I'm in for:
1. 2rx + 1tx

the hk yongnuo ebay store is a bit more pricey, I think the intention is to get it from Dealextreme. The page here has some basic description and specs:
http://cgi.ebay.com/RF602-RF-602-for-Ca ... 286.c0.m14

and this flickr strobist group has a discussion on it:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/d ... 634656829/

What I'm curious about is the light stand, umbrella/flash clamp and umbrella.

although J__, if you are in the mood for high dollar items, you could go for this:

FYI, the big parabolic light modifier we were using is this - in the 64inch size.

yeah, but that thing requires quite a commitment, right? I don't think the PLM will be particularly useful for small flash users - it needs a real (or effective) bare bulb to work its magic?

ya sure, I'm totally open to getting other things and different products. Group buys will save us all cash. Also, to tell you the truth I don't mind sharing equip myself or the costs cause its not like I use it everyday.

I'm down with getting other umbrellas... someone on CL has a 45' phottix convetible one, just like the one you posted from B&H, for $40... i saw it. Its in very good condition. was going to get it but only had enough cash for my stands that night. i need larger ones and I have another coming from Maxsaver.

well, if it is that extreme, i think the smallest items won't really have an impact.

If we're just getting triggers and remotes, all similar weights, then it'll just be divided by number of items you have... so if there are 10 items on the order (all Rx + Tx) and your order is 3 items, you'll be charge ~1/3 the cost of the shipping.

Not really....
According to This with a 580ex at 1/2power...things that make you go hmmmm....

http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/d ... 952919015/

At 7 feet away and 1/2 power I got F8. ISO100.

I noticed I got more power by zooming the flash out to 28mm.

At 10 feet away, I got f5.6 with the same conditions.

So you see it is quite efficient. You could even gang two flashes in there for effect.

Why not gather orders for 5 or six of these and then approach Alienbees and ask for a group deal? Maybe even order their stands too.

You're probably right Dan since it attaches just like an umbrella. As long as you use the widest beam on the flash or even put a stofen on it you should be good. Hmm .. another thing to experiment with .. :)

ok, I did not look too closely at the specs on the AB site till now. Looks like they also have petite 42" sized ones available. I had thought they came only in Big or Huge.

And the price is fairly decent; about the price I'd expect to pay for a proper umbrella.

Now the question is - what is the size of the shaft, and what kind of clamp/mounting hardware AB sells - would it fit a hotshoe flash, and would it be possible to place the hotshoe flash at the focal point, not displaced away from the shaft like some adaptors I've seen.

I might get the 42" silver

I think people are still going to order the RF602s from a site other than AB; for the money, RF602s perform really well; at last night's shoot, with 2 Tx and 2 Rx, I don't recall seeing anyone having misfires that were not caused by the flash not being fully charged (shooting too quickly).

well, in the interest of everyone, I can organize a group purchase of Maxsaver and DX...

I just placed 1 order each like on tuesday, so there can be a few things I'd get to save on the shipping since we're all getting something.

If you want something MS, or DX, lets post it here... Mike maybe you want to start an AB thread? I may want to get an umbrella... I want to see how bad my Maxsaver one will be ;)

Folks, I too can vouch for the RF-602 system - it's EXCELLENT. For $30 shipped, it's phenomenal value. It can trigger flashes (speedlights AND strobes w/ the free adapter), and it can trigger your camera's shutter. Very reliable over a fairly long range. I'm stunned at the quality for the money, especially considering I nearly bought a set of pocket wizards at B&H recently for the exact same purpose.

Now if only they'd let me improved the packaging and instruction manual..

So i got a product list of everything that Yongnuo makes and there is a tonne of stuff on there.

I think we can easily make a group buy if ppl are interested. It would be direct from Yongnuo and we will probably have to pay duty and brokerage fees.

Depending on how much we order, it'll still be in our favour.

Yup, but buying direct may prove even cheaper since we're getting it direct

Also, they have some stuff on the list that aren't offered by DX

Here is the product list, but please don't post it anywhere else as I don't want to get in trouble from YN. There aren't any prices, as I'm waiting on that still.
