Anything is a good start. You just have to start and not slack off. You only get better with practice.

I'd go for XTi in that case, XT is ok, but you'll grow out of it very quickly. a starter lens could be around $100-150

The D60 is good camera for anyone starting out, and combined with the kit lens... you'll be off to a good start in no time at all. The D60 has some "nifty" features too.

LAWLS

Honestly, any camera is good.. just depends on how much money you want to throw in. The more money you spend, the better features you get. The less money, the more it'll suck. lol

It might help if you gave some thought as to what you would like to really shoot a lot of...landscape, concerts, portraits. This might help you narrow down choices and lenses to start off on.

In case you don't know what you'll shoot yet, you can start with the kit 18-55 and see what you'll find yourself short of. Image quality, long zoom, macro capability, low light performance, all depends on what you'll want to shoot. I found myself using only wide angle (need ultra-wide now) and macro lens, I don't have any long reach lenses and so far I am ok, I don't like sports nor birds, wildlife could be one subject for me, but it doesn't justify spending a lot of money at this point :D

One of the drawbacks of the D60 is that it lacks the focus drive motor to run some of Nikon's lenses. You will limited to purchasing AF-S or AF-I lenses. Otherwise it's a great little camera.

No you won't. You'll be limited to autofocusing on AF-S lenses.

Wow, so negative. Ok, let me clarify, there's no AF motor in the D60 so AF will only be available IF you purchase AF-S or newer AF-I lenses and NON-AF-S or AF-I AF lenses WILL work, just that you will be limited to manual focusing. How's that? Better?

Hiya, I'm looking to sell my Nikon D60 body for 350bucks (ebayed and found that price for a used one) that's in mint condition. I have all the accessories and bags that comes with it.

It's bought from Henry's, and is under 3000 shots. Reason I'm selling is because I received D5000 as a gift and am going to use that instead.

I wanted to post this in the 'Selling' section but unfortunately only joined recently and did't fulfill the 15 post requirements.

Please pm and let me know if you are interested and we work out a deal! Cheers!!!

I bought a D60 used with a couple of kit lenses and I love it. If you buy new, you can upgrade to a 5-year warrantee, the same as the Nikon lenses, for around $70. Although I suspect Nikon cameras are fairly robust.

lol, dont suspect, i had my old D70s across europe in a non-padded backpack. Everything survived without a scratch.

It is as solid and heavy as 2 bricks.
