Details:

What: Wide Angle Prime Streetshooting
When: July 19th, 2009
Time: 4pm
Where: Dundas West Station by the McDonalds
Bring: Any type of body with a prime lens that's 35mm or shorter

With the success of last night's telephoto prime photowalk, I'd like to bring forth a wide angle prime photowalk. Members faced the challenges of a smaller field of view and the need for quick thinking. Now, let us see what members can do with wide angle primes.

Feel free to post or PM me any questions or suggestions you may have.

(..and no... no zooms. primes only. sorry.)

35/1.4, check.
24/2.8, check (trying to decide between selling and keeping... it's very small/compact!)

Consider this one vote for the The Junction and Roncesvalles areas. :)

I wonder how active this area is in the evening. It might be better to do a mid afternoon start (i.e. 2:00 to 6:00). Or earlier in the morning?

I think yours is FF so 35mm is wide enough
Mine is 16mm FE but with 1.5x crop factor, that is really not much at all.
I need to get a film body to get full FE effect
If I cannot make, you guys have fun. Likely with a lot of big nose portrait of tpmgers :P :P

Why don't you offer to loan him one?

I hope this shoot ends up being around 2pm as listed cuz I got a birthday party to attend after and I really want to shoot with you guys/gals again!

Anywhere along the subway line is good for me! The locations Eric suggested sound good since I've never been to either yet.

I am in the same situation as rayjsiu. I have to meet friends in the evening for a birthday. I won't be able to join up for a bite at the end :( , but I will be there to shoot in the afternoon :) .

David, you should beg or borrow an appropriate lens or just rent one. I have the same situation. I have all zooms, but I rented the lenses for the last prime shoot, and I am renting lenses for this event. I want to try them out and this is a great opportunity. :D

Sounds like a good idea, but Pride is the following day, so I would much rather save my energy for the enormous crowds and ensuing havoc. 8)

Due to lack of response and my schedule, I'm going to have to postpone this to a later date. Sorry guys.

It is unfortunate that you had to postpone. Hopefully the postponement is not too far into the future.

Maybe the problem was that it was limited to primes, and not allow wide zooms that some people have. I would have joined in because I'm looking for opportunities to test out my semi-fisheye converter but I attach it onto my zoom lens; I'd keep my zoom lens at 28mm for the circular fisheye effect, but because it isn't a prime I couldn't join in!

And no, I wouldn't rent a lens for this event because that would defeat the purpose of getting familiar with my new lens.

Actually, I'm quite interested, I just couldn't make the original date. So hopefully when you set a new date I will be able to join in.

Small bump to let everyone know this is still going on. If you don't have a wide angle prime for this event, check out my 50mm outing.

Just looking at my schedule and realized I can make it to this event. My smallest (prime) lens is my 50mm Nikon AF NIKKOR 1:1.8D but I'm going to try and rent a lens for this.

Can someone verify that the following lens from Vistek is appropriate for this event: Nikon AF20/2.8 D Lens (<a href="http://vistek.ca/rentals/details/455/R300383/nikon-af2028-d-lens.aspx">Vistek Rental Link</a>). $16/weekend, $64/week..

Thanks, and see you there.

Just rented a 20mm Nikon lens from Vistek for the week. Hurray for big noses!

OK, this should be fun. I never ever did street shooting with a lens this wide. My employer has a good health insurance plan in case I suffer broken bones .. heh heh .. Oh, must remember to wear comfy shoes to shoot and run fast :)

This may seem like a weird question but I am not familiar with Dundas West Station. Is the MacDonalds outside the TTC areas?

Get off the train, go up the stairs and you'll see the McDonalds (a very small one) just beside the exit (inside the station). There's also another flight of stairs that brings you to the ground floor (where the streetscars/buses are) as well but just walk over.
