For months now I have seen teh thread on garbage cans and shook my head. I got the concept of forcing yourself to shoot something, but garbage cans!!?? I just cringed every time there was a new post in this thread.

"forcing yourself"?
Art is what you make it. I"m not sure if I have many garbage can photos but I do have a bunch of photos of debris on beaches.
Including a coconut on the sunny north shore of Lake Ontario in January or February.
And a snow covered orange.

It looks like we will have plenty of oportunity to take overflowing garbage pictures this summer.

Looks like your genre of garbage photography may be getting VERY popular soon. If this strike drags on very long it may be hard NOT to photograph garbage on our streets.

Someone might need to develop a photoshop plug-in that clones garbage out of the photos.

Maybe Henry's will stock Canon/Nikon surgical masks to help photographers that have to brave the funky city smells. Maybe Gary Fong can sell a hugely oversized over-priced version.

When is the next really big event in TO?

Pride is coming up. When is Caribana?
What else is comparable?
I remember reading that Pride organizers are prepared in case of a strike.

That reminds me I want to book a couple vacation days for Canada Day.

Pride is this weekend
Caribana is always on Simcoe Day weekend - first weekend of August.

I know the garbage workers do a good job and they probably deserve what they are asking for but:

Strange how the contract always comes up for renewal at the hottest time of year.:

We are in the biggest recession in most people's life time people are losing their jobs the public services need to restrain themselves and tighten the belt for at least for the year.

Having the garbage strike in the summertime causes millions if not billions of dollars of lost tourist revenue at a time when we really need it. What person books a holiday to a town during a garbage strike. The government is just as much to blame as the unions. They no that as long ass the union is on strike they don't have to pay them, so if the strike goes on for a month or 2 they look like heroes when they settle the strike without increasing the budget and they can always put up the taxes next year after all it just comes out of our pockets.

Now I have the solution, believe it or not it's compliments of the TTC. The TTC has garbage and cleanup crews who are not on strike so every time you take the subway bring in a bag of garbage and put it in their garbage bins. Make sure you separate out your recycling after all we need to be green.

I'm looking forward to taking my cameras rat hunting.

If the union had to parade in -40 degree C weather, the strike would alreayd be over.

i guess i was thinking of it like throwing trash at an apartment's dumpster, but since the ttc is used by the public it may have different rules.

iunno. i would try to be discreet about it if i was going to attempt this.

I think what CITY meant was no dumping (like your inhouse garbage bags) into the public bins, that's what a $300-400 fine is for, right?

I'm being sarcastic not really suggesting this as a solution.

Nice one above.
Tells a story....or suggests a bigger one. That's not easy to do with a single image.
