So, I was browsing flickr and in one of my groups this topic came up, and it sparked my interest. I wanted to know what you guys' opinions on this are!

"Can I see the shots?"

Personally, I don't mind showing my shots.

Most of the bands photograph are just friends bands, so half the time we look at the shots together after the sets and choose the ones they absolutely want, and i write em down and make sure to send them.

If it's another band like someone a little bigger, then i'll usually show them just a few. I usually have my laptop at the shows with local bands and just store em right after the shoot and look through it with them as the other band gets setup.

I am different! Haha I don't edit my photos at all. Minus resizing. (That's not editing!) I send them the pictures as is. Bad idea? Probably, I know these people as closest friends of all so i don't mind helping them out with shots :)

I'm usually (happily) ignored, but during the Beaches Streetfest one of the stall workers asked me what I was photographing since I was shooting at night and moving the camera in odd movements, rather than having the camera held still in a tripod, so I showed her one of my better shots (doing the same thing) from earlier in the evening. She thought it was neat, but didn't discuss it further.

You'll see me doing this at the CNE if you catch me at night (although I may bring some NDs along and try some evening/dusk shots).

Just to add that when I am showing someone an image the camera is always secured to me...I don't pass it to them.

rhomell:

I usually send all my shots (high res) to 1 band, Enter Ghost. Reason being. I am good friends with the lead singer, known him since i was about like 5. He and I have worked out a contract haha long story, so I don't mind. Usually I take around 150 - 200 per band at a show, most of the time not even 15 or so get sent out to the bands. (High res)

I will touch up and resize the best shots, or ones they specifically ask for after the shoots. I perosnally don't even mind sending full sets to bands, as long as i get:

Credit
Payment (I ask pretty cheap for local emerging bands, since they usually don't have much) (if used for resale: Posters, Shirts, CD Covers)

i guess i am more of a hobby then looking for some cash, although paying shoots i don't even charge much! I am not the type of person to take money from someone doing something i so highly enjoy. I do it for the fun of it more then anything.

always, yes. 99% of the time, they get a kick out of it and it works in my favour.

I personally enjoy the fact that at the shows I usually shoot, most of the photographers are always the same, Me and 2 or 3 other ones, and we always seem to compare shots afterwards haha,

It's always fun to browse around with other photographers and see what they got, we also usually take turns and keep changing in prime spots we get, we are like a little team of shutter bugs...more of an infestation haha.

I also agree that it can work in your favor. I usually print a cheap portfolio and have it at merch table, and i've gotten some amazing replies from bands asking me to do shows!

I love it. :)

If I'm asked, I almost always show the shots. They always seem better than they are, on the rear LCD  Some of the riders I'll make a point of showing a particularly good shot to, because I know that they're interested in getting the better shots. Once in a while another shooter will ask to see them, but that's rare.
