Hi everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me lol.
I've been going back and forth for the past year, trying to decide what career path I want. I've always had an interest in photography but have never done anything about it. I've taken two graphic design courses but really want to give photography a shot. My problem is I have NO IDEA where to start.

Ideally I would like to do newborn/children/family photography. I currently own a Canon Rebel t3i but have very basic knowledge of how to use it. Can anyone suggest a beginners course for me? And do I have to take a college course to eventually get to a level where I can begin to start a home based business? What computer programs do I need to learn?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Invest in good lenses. make sure they're full frame so you can upgrade your camera in the future without problems.
Good lenses will always have more value then a camera.

Looks like you want to do portraits, i would suggest starting with a simple 50mm lens. I'm a nikon user so im not familure with the canon lenses but anything between 50mm - 85mm will work for what you want.

If you're looking to do this for a career, start shooting a lot, and i mean a lot! learn your camera. understand your camera and how to use it well.
I would suggest learning on youtube, its great.

Cheers.

Hey, I know if you go by my posts count you might get skittish to follow any of my advice, thats fair, and I'm pretty new to photography my self but honestly I've been watching the videos from kelbyone.com
It's $20 a month and you get unlimited access to all their tutorials and they are superb. I've been reading his books and watching these videos. You'll be amazed at how much your photography will improve.
I'm sure you could spend a lot more, and learn far less, else where.

Depending on the type of photography, you might like the tutorials of the French photographer Serge Ramelli on Youtube.
