Hi All,

Looking to produce some prints, and hoping to get some suggestions from the group. I don't normally print so forgive me if some of my questions seem obvious.

I'm trying to make some prints (scans of artwork) on a matte, thicker-than-photo-paper paper... I'm not sure what that paper is called, i've done some looking on Pikto but i'm not sure what paper options to go for. I've seen the Giclee options, but that seems very expensive and perhaps overkill. What sort of paper should I be looking to print on (at Pikto) that is thicker/stiffer than photo paper and matte?

Any advice is much appreciated.

-Craig

Metallic is thick, but it has its own properties. The giclee is an inkjet print, you can do their standard instead, it's a photographic paper laser projection, similar to the classic photographic process

As far as I know, all large format printers work with rolls of paper. So looking to print on something "thick or stiff" will likely lead to disappointment. What I would suggest is printing it like you would normally do (Inkjet, Chromogenic, etc), then have a framer dry mount the photo on to a matt board (thick) or something like gatorboard or diebond (thickest). Most framed prints are dry mounted onto some sort of thick backing in order to keep them nice and flat.

what Bart suggests can usually be done by the printer as well, I've never tried the boards myself

Thanks for the great suggestions, guys. Ended up going to Pikto, and they did a fantastic job!

While I have no serious issues with the printing at Pikto their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I gave them more of their fair share of chances to make things right and they failed miserably and have lost me as a customer. Colourgenics and GTA Imaging get my business now.
