Maybe I bought the Nik software too soon? The best thing I can see is the smart previews, that is awesome!

Obviously Adobe will come up with a new release (LR6) within 2 months of my upgrading to LR5 just to piss me off. Ba$tards!!
Maybe I'll piss them off by upgrading now, sooner than later. Imagine the look on their faces when they realize they only have 2 months to get a new updated version.

I was happy with LR3 and only upgraded because I needed LR4 to process my 5DIII files (I hated converting to DNG). Is there anything in the new release worth paying another $80 for?

There's a pretty handy improvement to the spot removal tool, which works as a brush now, similar to the spot removal in Photoshop (you can drag it along), also a wire removal. Some kinda upright distortion correction tool, I haven't looked at yet. A bunch of other handy features, plus it works faster.

Ugh, no announced update to Aperture yet. Do I bite the bullet and go Lightroom?

You won't regret it, with updates every 2 months, can't beat it :)

So, the spot removal works pretty well, not as good as PS, but almost. Upright is very handy, I no longer have to do this manually, saves a couple clicks.

Check this link and then call Abobe. You may be eligible for a free upgrade.

Worth a shot. I got a free upgrade to Photoshop 5 years ago because I was lat upgrading t version 4. You have to call and ask.

Tim

p.s. Version 5 is fast :)

I'm going to take the plunge - anyone know of any promo codes or anything to get $ off the full version?

WTF How did they manage it to get SO MUCH faster than LR4? Playing around with 36mpx raw files is a night and day difference between LR4 and LR5.

This is what I did

Buy LR4 here (they are an authorized Adobe reseller) for $94: http://www.canadasoftwareoutlet.ca/adob ... nload.html

Then go to the Adobe site and request the complimentary upgrade to LR5: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/poli ... ement.html

I've been playing around with LR5 a little this weekend. And as Bart said, it's fast!! Easily outperforms Aperture. And the healing brush is insanely better than the one in Aperture. Why did I not switch sooner?!?

Well I guess now its time to learn a new program.

I've upgraded from 4 to 5. What a difference in speed! A pleasure for post production and workflow! Anyone sitting on the fence take the plunge. You won't be disappointed.

Some real nice upgrades but nothing earth shattering. All in all, well worth the $79 upgrade

I still haven't done this and should. This app is too much of a pig for an i7 machine with 24gig of ram.

It flies on my iMac! I have no idea what version 4 was like, but 5 is fast.

Lr kicks ass on several levels. If I can get it to run at an appropriate speed it'd be near perfect. Perfect would be a native Linux version...
