Depends on the airline as well as if you are taking another bag as a carry on. For example, you can take a regular carry on + an umbrella, laptop bag or purse. Different airlines have different restrictions on that +1 item. Some will let you take a tripod, some won't. I would call ahead.

Yup, depends on the airline. I just flew to Europe with Air Transat and they said one carry-on bag + a laptop bag. I had to check my tripod. On other flights I've been able to take my tripod as a "personal item" in addition to the carry-on.

Now that's weird, I don't even ask and I fly transat all the time, I just bring it with me and store it on the overhead no issues there. Mind you this is an old and beaten HUGE & HEAVY Manfrotto-Bogen from 1994!!!

I travel at least twice a year, and I have been doing it so since 1996...I had never been asked to check my tripod, even on my most recent trip to Europe where airline constraints are harsher than those in the Americas (North, South and Caribbean)

It's probably under their own discretion. Qualdoth's tripod bag is pretty big lol.

thanks for the input guys.. I've called delta airlines and the "customer support" just answered me that if it will fit on theoverhead compartment or under the seats then it can be a carry-on item... i'll try and bring it tomorrow, anyways it has its own tripod case.... if in case they will reject it, I'll just leave it on my car since ill be doing a long term parking in their parking space.... will let you know if this goes thru...

I assumed I was going to carry it on but they were pretty harsh in saying no way.
