Is Google trying to take on Adobe Create Cloud? Not sure what to think of this, there is a lot of market consolidation going on, which typically is bad news for consumers.

I just hope they don't screw around with the Nik software plugins - I really have been enjoying usi g them, and they work with aperture.

Plus I like snapseed - I'd hate to see them discontinue development of it for the iPad.

I guess time will tell what their plans are.

Market consolidation typically involves consolidation of two or more competing products into one. This isn't the case, Google doesn't have any real image editing products/plugins. It's more like Google moving into a new market. Either way, that'll be tough, the Adobe Creative Cloud has 20 years worth of imaging experience to build on.

Might be for competing with iphone camera photos. Or might even be for picasa. Google has been busy integrating cloud services, cell phones, google+, picasa ...

The whole reason for this purchase is to keep up with facebook. OMG facebook bought instagram we need to buy something too, how about Nik Software they do photo stuff right? I mean I think its a weird move but i'm sure thats their thinking on this. I think they really wanted snapspeed so i'm sure the filter software packages are pretty safe.

When you have a trainload full of money what can you do with it besides spend some. So they bought Nik software. Not good news for the users unless the developing team went with it.

I'm sure the development team went with it - as others have stated Google most likely wants the Snapseed app/program to compete with Facebook - and snapseed in my opinion is way better than instagram - not necessarily as a social media app - but as a photo editing/enhancing program - I've done some nice work on it with my iPad. As long as they continue to update snapseed (on iOS) and put in resources for the Nik software plugins then I really don't care who owns it. I just do not want to see another Bungie situation (the makers of Halo - probably the biggest game series on x-box). Bungie was bought my Microsoft and when did it bungie stopped all development of games for the Mac (in fact they developed games exclusively for the Mac and were one of the few to do so). If MS didni't buy them Halo was destined to be a Mac only game originally. I just dont' want to see Nik software to become exclusive to say Android or Google+ and everything else get left behind.
