Honestly, it's probably intereference from your video card or screen.

If you move your headphone/speaker wires away from the screen does it still happen?

It's also possible it is internal to the system. Some really cheap sound cards don't have much filtering from the other parts of the computer and pick up random noise when various bits in the computer are working hard. If that's the case, it would be fixed by a USB sound card (usually under $50, I think).

Is it like a drum roll rising to a crescendo? That's normal.

(Sorry, can't help it. :-) )

omg...I remember this problem. But is was most likely associated with the BIOS and how IRQ3 and IRQ5 were shared between the ps3 port and the audio driver.

This however was fixed a while back. USB's don't have this issue...but then, I'm always surprised to learn something new and interesting. :P

If you're savvy enough, you can try forcing the audio to use a different IRQ in device manager. Or you can go into the BIOS to change the IRQ for the mouse.

Toolz, USB mice don't use IRQs.

In fact, 64 bit systems don't even have them (at least not in the same form).

That's a pretty dang old-school experience you have there, though. :-)

Almost all computers have just a simple one built into the motherboard.

It depends on the quality of the motherboard, really.

Still, if you're interested in troubleshooting, go out and spend $40 on a USB sound card at Best Buy. You can always return it later if it doesn't solve the problem, but I bet it does.

Yeah...I know USB's don't use IRQ's. But last I looked, at least in the BIOS you can still change them around. Unless of course. I am really using an old system. Dang!! Time to upgrade!! LOL!!

But yeah, I remember having a similar problem on an older system.

It's amazing how many things about computers get forgotten.
