Why do some stores, fill out your warranty card for you and keep a copy?

Aden will seperate the warranty card and staple your receipt to it.

At Vistek, They will fill out the card, and keep their copy until the return time has passed. Then they said they mail in their copy.

So what happens with these filled out cards if you return the merchandise?

Some stores do not fill out any part of the warranty card at all and leave them all to you. If you make a return, you just return everything.

Does anyone know why they do this?

Thanks

good question ... Merkle camera takes care of the warranty card for me on everything I purchase there, and apparently they send them into Nikon. I've never had an issue -- and I have had to cash in on warranty repairs, with no issue whatsoever.

Well, on let's say the Nikon warranty cards, there's three papers: Dealer's Record, Distributor's Copy (if I remember correctly), and Customer's Copy. We take the first two pages and send it to Nikon. The last copy is filled in/stamped and given to the customer with the receipt for warranty purposes. But I still don't know precisely why. Most likely to keep track of how much each dealer/distributor sells. Also maybe to keep track where products being serviced originated from.

Isn't a blank warranty card required if you choose to return the item? Maybe filling in the warranty "for the customer" is a way to make returns harder?
