so is it just me, or does anyone else think that the Henry's half-back deal on a slightly used camera is just dumb? And why would anyone take advantage of it, when you could sell the camera used and get more money for it on the used market?

huh? well... say you bought a camera in June, and decided 6 months later you wanted something else - Henrys wil buy it at half of the price you paid for it. OK - so in other words they are more than happy to bennefit from you when the camera is easily worth 80% or more of what you paid. Who in their right mind would say ... ok I'll sell it back to you for 1/2 of the value and get what I want forking out more cash.

Convenience for sure. Most people are not going to post ads on craigslist and deal with low ballers, etc.

Half is an option for a lot of people.

The way I read the deal's terms, the half back must be applied towards the purchase of a new camera from Henry's.

I believe that is correct..... only applies on purchase of a new camera. I still don't see the point. I'd rather sell it and get the value for the camera.

I agree with this statement completely. When I was younger I would save money and build my own computers, fixed my own cars and do a lot of things myself. Now that I'm older I'm more than happy to pay a mechanic to fix my car and buy a mac with the specs I want online. I'm also at the point where I don't want to deal with lowballers or even waste time trying to sell stuff and I would gladly take that deal if I wanted to trade it in for a new camera.

Yeah, it's dumb. But give them a break, they already run a free lens rental service.

You could try to sell the item yourself, and use the half-back deal if you don't find a buyer.

I have a method for dealing with lowballers on CL ..... ask way more than you want for the thing, and people will lowball you down to the actual price you want for it. :) works everytime.

Their top customers are probably people who write everything off as expenses anyway. It's a waste of their effort to try to sell it themselves.
