Hello. I am just wondering if anyone out there taking any workshops on event wedding photography. Any resources that one could share.Experiences/reactions. I was recently approached if for hire and I would feel ill prepared to take on the task.

Trish,

There is a "ton" of information on the Internet...
Also here, there are a bunch of threads that talk about wedding photography.

Other than that, I don't know of any workshops...

So

How much shooting experience do you have? I personally wouldn't suggest shooting a wedding as the primary if you haven't done it before. Shoot at least five weddings as a secondary first.

In weddings, there are a few styles. I suggest learn how to direct people posing before trying to do a shoot. For, I have a hard time telling strangers how to pose for their one-on-one photos.

+1

I think this is the absolute most important part of doing this job. Learning how to deal with people who have no idea how to stand, how to pose and what to do. They look to you to take control of the situation and you need to be able to do that. You can be the best photographer in the world, but if you're some social retard (no offense), you're not gonna make it. I am not sure if there are workshops for that.

All the other aspects of the wedding, you have no control, you're just there to document. You obviously have to know what you're doing, but you work on it, adjust accordingly and take a crap load of shots. I started off head first and shot two weddings for the first time as the ONLY shooter. Looking back at it, I can't believe my friends trusted me with this, they're nuts. thericyip is definitely right, being a second shooter first is the right way to go.

I have been looking quite a bit on the net as I am always surfing images in general and photography sites (too much time spent!!)info doing research as what one charges, what is entailed/expectation in the service I would be providing, what equipment, etc. I kind of enjoy a workshop dynamic its cool what you can learn or pick up from another person if you are open to it. You learn what you might do better or what works/what does'nt. It also generates the shots I might be looking to add to a portfolio of shots. I appreciate the suggest as starting as a second shooter. I have no formal shooting experience as a hired photographer. Mostly a hobby thru high school 20 some years back (film) and been shooting dslr a short time as a hobby. Been taking a few workshops here and there the past few months. I certainly appreciate all the feedback.
