Details:

What: TPMG Amateur Chef/Foodie Cookout and photo session
When: To Be Determined based on interest
Time: TBD
Where: An appropriately sized kitchen/space (In the Downtown Toronto Area)
Bring: Food, Utensils, display material, camera gear and an appetite.

Who would be interested in doing something (likely in September) where those interested in cooking and eating participate in a multi-purposed event. We'd be cooking up a storm and setting up for some proper food photography.

This is merely to gauge interest at the moment in hopes that we could put something together to get a sweet event.

Why the **** would they do that when they already have one of the best food photographers on the board who has this shit down signed up? <-rhetorical.

Nothing against anybody else but too many cooks in the kitchen...

Your opinion has been counted. For what it is worth, I believe the goal here would be to have space enough for cooks not to be running over each other.
And further to the first post, this is to gauge interest for properly planning it out to ensure awesomeness to the maximum level :D

Really you truly believe that there is nothing extra other photographers can learn from having more then one good food photographer on board? <-rhetorical but puzzled

Anyway it's up to the organizers to decide what they want to do. I volunteer to taste/eat :D

An idea as well would be to maybe have a few bakers do things ahead of time so we have something to shoot while others are cooking. I will volunteer to make something!

There are also a few studio's available with kitchens for rent - if we have a large group - maybe rent a studio and have 2 or 3 tables set up for shooting

Loving this idea!

I had a feeling this might flourish with input!

We shall start planning this out real soon.

Great idea, but the cooking/baking part could be a recipe (ouch!) for disaster. At least in my hands. How many microwaves and stovetops/ovens would we need? Food prep is an art in itself - I've got my hands full with the art of photography.

Here's a suggestion: For the price of a good dinner each, we could pitch in and get a caterer to do all the food. We get dinner and lots of dishes to play with (no motor oil gravy etc. allowed). All we need is a big space to shoot.

Three tables for 20 photogs is not going to work unless they a big tables - we need space for each dish. We could order a variety of appetizers, entrees, deserts. I probably won't be able to eat any of it (wheat allergy), but I'd love to shoot the variety.

Maybe we do a few sessions instead of one big one? Limit each session to 10 people, that way we can cover everyone who wants to join and allows everyone a fair chance to sign up.

1)Apps and Drinks
2)mains
3)desserts

I know a food stylist that I worked with at Ryerson but I think she's $$ to book for ourselves. I can look into it if people are interested. The catering idea is good too, but again - $$ Plus half the fun of food photography is making it yourself :)

Cooking is probably one of my first hobbies so I'm down for cooking

splitting it up sounds like a great idea! I already have recipes brewing in my head!

Also, food sensitivities are key to know and I would love to cook for a wheat allergy. Since my wife is vegetarian, I have a bunch of reciepes I could modify easily to accomodate that.

Do people know their way around industrial kitchens? I can bake and make it look nice but I'm not used to using commercial equipment.

I would be but I would be muddling around for a bit at first. Turning on gas for all the ranges, and making sure things are all fired up is my biggest issue. Once its going, I think i'd be ok

I'm with J on this one.

This idea is more of a selfish thing for he and I as the love of cooking is right up there, and then shooting.

Why not mix the two?
At this point I'm not so interested in making this all about photography, and hence getting it catered or getting a food stylist that is going to make this a bit farther out of reach cost-wise.

What I am extremely interested in is sharing two passions with other people who at least share one (photography) and making for a good time out of it.

I really do like the idea of splitting what would otherwise be one event into two or three as mentioned above and appreciate everyone's input and ideas.

As mentioned with the food sensitivities I would implore anyone participating in the events to make their own needs known (I have a peanut allergy personally) as I'd aspire to mix peoples culinary interests and backgrounds in with accommodating specific needs and desires.

I'd intend for this to be more social than just focusing on food or photography alone, let it be fun, tasty and add something new to your portfolio!

I don't know if the cost is too high in relation to other rental places but this is a very nice space & location if you could find a Saturday that hasn't already been booked. Another plus is that all or most of the ingredients could be brought within the building.

For all interested parties, this event or series of events has not fallen through the cracks.

Either J___ or myself will update this in the next little while (days) with a better idea of flow for the event.

For those interested in the Toronto Underground Market... well you missed our again as the tickets sold out in less than 24 hours this time.
Keep your eyes peeled for the November event!

A date for this is in the works.
I do believe that if we could retain this data however for our number/costing estimates that would be beneficial.

However I think that this discussion can made less visible - if that is your intent.
To avoid confusion when we set the event up I would be more inclined to create a new one now, I do believe anyways.

no I won't move it ... I was just moving events into the aftermath area to clean up the new event forum. But all good.
