Hi all,

This thread is a feeler to see if there will be any photographers interested in doing a "dance" photography event. I currently sit on the board for a local chinese not-for-profit dance company and I'm trying to help them raise operating capital.

The general idea would be that we would go to a theater with a stage, proper lighting etc. A dancer or a pair of dancers will come out in traditional colourful costumes. They would run through their choreographed routine and pose for the photographers. We can also likely arrange for some of the dancers to go all out and do the chinese opera style costume and makeup.

The session may also be possibly led by a well known photographer in the field of dance photography.

I know this is all a bit vague but I will work on getting more details.

Cheers,

Zeekid

I'll do it, I won't pay for it, but I can give a license to use my photos that I submit

Zeekid could you please let us know whether this is to raise money for the Dance group or to be a trade of services (photographs for the chance to photograph dancer)?

I have no problem with either but would like to know the intent before answering the poll.

Metrix, the intent of this will be to raise money for the dance company so that they can continue operating and to ensure they have enough capital to put on their annual show.

I won't be surprised if the dancers would ask some photographers for copies of the images that they can use for their portfolio. If that's the case then I'm sure we can work out a pricing scheme with the photographers.

Whenever I see the words 'well known photographer', somehow I see $$ attached to it.

I am interested in doing this, by the way. depends on the fees and the actual shooting time per photographer

Rhommel, we haven't quite worked out the details with the photographer but if there is enough interest from the TPMG community we may do multiple sessions where some of them would be run by the photographer and others would simply be a "free for all".

The session that will be led by this dance photographer could charge a bit more if they instruct the photographers on how to take more dynamic dance photographs.

I am interested in taking photos of dancing. I have good equipment and my work is not bad. I can provide the digital files of photos taken, free, but I am not in a position to contribute in the fund raising derive.

Just for some clarification, you're talking about a learning experience/chance to shoot event, and not something where only one person is shooting as some in the thread think you are asking about.

Mike, you are totally correct.

There are potentially two opportunities here.

1. Unlead photographic event where the photographers can take photos of the dancers in traditional Chinese costumes while they run through choreographed routines. The dancers will stop to pose as they go through their routines.

2. Workshop style event that will be lead by a dance photographer.

In both cases it will be a group event and not a one on one event.

I will try to get more details by next week.

Cheers,

Zeekid

If this event does become a workshop where a fee is charged -- technically that would be considered a commercial posting. So just be weary of that. Thanks.
