I'd love to shoot film too, if only there was a better way to store all that film once I'm done.

I guess I could be ruthless and throw away the film after scanning a high res copy, but that just doesn't seem right.

One thing I highly agree though

for me, i need to be nomadic, at least for some more time, and so, I cannot imagine having to lug around hundreds of rolls of film wherever I move to.

But I get what you mean, and it's interesting how many of the formerly well regarded cameras and equipment are going for much less money since everyone wants a digital thing these days.

would love to have my own darkroom etc though. Your pictures are beautiful!

yaa, lug some hard drives and batteries instead (and never "nomad" too far from the wall outlet) 8)

cute, ever since the digital came out i've been answering peer pressure with "if only there was a better way to store all those tiffs..." hasn't happened yet. maybe when i finally do run into a film problem in one of my thousand-klick treks... or when they discover that a few stacked cardboard boxes can cause cancer or something...

Not exactly true, most of those cameras are priced quite steep, since there is a big demand for them. A lot of people actually want a film camera, as we all know digital is not real photography :P

Dave I liked the comment from "Harry Wallop" (can that really be his name!) about the "very rare 120mm film" in his opener. You bet that's rare ;D

You're a hip old dude who's into the newest thing, selfmade pinhole boudoir photography. If you prefer using a typewriter over a laptop than you're even cooler

this also coincides with an increase in prices of film cameras.

Live the dream kiddos. But economics are trying to kill it.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/ ... 0-15-11-59

Notice in particular the 99.5% drop in non disposable film camera sales and the 95% drop in film sales since 2000.

Not true:
Quote:
The Lomographic Society International in Vienna sold 500,000 new cameras in 2010.
And 4 million films. They are expecting to sell 8 million films this year.

Sure but these days, the Lomo guys are pretty much the only game in town, at least as far as who is driving the trend of interest in shooting film. And more power to them! <del>Neckbeards</del> Enthusiasts using 8x10s and 4x5s and medium format don't even register statistically by comparison.

Of course, that said, the "Instagram" app for smartphones is eating Lomo's lunch. The end product (blurry, seemingly randomly exposed vignetted photos) is now easily and instantly produced digitally, so Lomo now occupies a hardware fetish niche...

Maybe true but a 50% growth in film sales is pretty impressive. Smartphones are also destroying the small digital P&S market.

IMHO film 35mm 120mm has become a valuable niche market and will remain one for quite sometime. It's just that the old dinosaur companies like Kodak have to evolve or die now that the movie industry is converting to digital theatres. Large format film has been a niche market for at least 30 yrs so it's now a niche of a niche.

Film is not making a comeback but it's decline seems to have flattened out with some slight gains in specific areas. :)

Well I'll keep on shooting it as long as they make it. And it would be a damn shame to see the end of film production as we know it.
