I was just wondering if you guys know of any good spot to take a nice sun rise shot at this time of the year, preferably over the lake horizon, just thought catching a glimpse of first sun rise of 2011 would be kinda nice.

Well, I know the Sun rise from east... :) but with azimuth angle of the exact sun rise over the horizon, it may be a bit tricky to get the right shot. I tried the the Scarborough lakeshore near the Guildwood Inn last year but I ended up facing more like south and sun came up through the trees. (plus heavy cloud cover as morning progressed sucked) So...any suggestions? hopefully within 30min driving from GTA?

i was planning to go to Cobourg (Victoria Beach area)in the new year but that's about an hour away East of TO.

if it's within TO, how about Harbourfront or Lakeshore West?

Download adobe air and the software called TPE. Should give you some guidance on where the sun will poke up.

That being said, I know winter sunrises and sunsets tend to be rather lackluster compared to summer ones.

sorry about the late post, but thanks everyone for your suggestions. The software definitely came in handy. Since the sun does rise in the south-east facing the lake, Leslie spits or Humber Bay park looks promising so long as weather cooperates. I'll probably stake out the spots in the next few days as a dry run.

I was thinking of trying Humber Bay on Jan. 1, since I'm coming into the city anyway. I've seen some really nice shots of the sunrise reflected off the ice in the river; however the current forecast shows above freezing temperatures from Wed. to Sat., so it doesn't look like there will be any ice.

Any interest in making this an ad-hoc?
