Got a question about the specific scenario:

I need to take product shots for t-shirts under UV light with background separation for easy extraction in PS.
Here's my idea on this, tell me if that could work or not and any tips would be appreciated as I am not very adept at lighting yet...

I have a 580EX and 7D can trigger it, I also have yongnuo 602's
I was thinking of doing long exposure for the fluoro design to come through while blasting the background with the flash to blow it out. main problem would be separation of the background from main subject, so that the light wouldn't spill over or bounce around. Any ideas?

a tshirt is a pretty simple object shape. Why not just do the black light long exposure and then replace the black background with white if you want in post?

it would be pretty hard to extract a black t-shirt from dark background, unless maybe i backlight it?

oh i didn't realize the t shirts were black. Yeah, maybe a soft hot light just pointed at the background to give a slight glow around the shirt to show the outline. Otherwise, you can use a background that also catches the UV light and glows up too.

What's so tricky? Just make sure when you light the background that it's far enough away from the t-shirt(s) so there is no light contamination. It would be a good idea to block the flash so that it is only directed at the background.
