Heya ppls..first post on this website, thought it should be fun..
i have a XTi sitting in a cupboard somewhere and i was wondering if ANYBODY has attempted ANY form of Infrared Photography.

I found couple websites like
lifepixel.com
and
read abut a company called MADMAX if i'm not mistaken

and what these company's do is change the filter that's in front of your camera sensor which converts it to a PERMANENT infrared rather then pop a circular filter in front of your lens..

Now can anybody talk to me through experience if this a wise decision? or should i just sell the XTI...Ive got a 50D already which is my perma cam..so this XTI just sits there

Any suggestions would be SUPER appreciated

Dug further into the forums and YES it was discussed before but people have been talking about using coloured films, or UV filter in front of the camera. I'm talking about doing a full conversion by removing the glass from right ontop of the sensor and replacing it with a UV glass from lifepixel (seems to be my only source)

I already took the camera apart this evening and reassembled it to see if i could do it and it does work...so now that i know my way around this camera I'm going to look further into doing a conversion...

if anybody else has some some input i would highly appreciate it...

I'm puzzled with: "replacing it with a UV glass" do you mean IR filter glass?

Anyway lifepixel has most of the information you want on their site. I did a DIY conversion on a P&S by replacing the hot mirror (glass in front of the sensor) with a watch crystal and then adding the filter in front of the lens. I suppose you use IR glass instead of the watch crystal but this way was cheaper and gives me the option of removing the filter and having a full spectrum camera. In day light the camera is sensitive enough to be used handheld.

My blog entry on the conversion is here:

Plenty of more information in the appropriate groups on Flickr
