Dave and I were talking about this over lunch at BCPV. Agfa Scala is B&W positive film in search of processing.... thinking about it some more, here is what I found (links courtesy of photo.net forums):

Don't cross process it in C41: http://www.flickr.com/photos/iantindale/457577568/

One guy did figure out his own home-brew process:

(too much work for me :S)

Scala processes very nicely as B&W negatives!

Lastly, there is one place in Denver that does B&W chrome processing:

Hope this is useful to someone...

I've been sitting on a roll of Scala in 120. I'll probably end up developing it in Rodinal.

I was under the weird imprecision that you can turn any silver film into a positive with a few extra steps in the process, (bleach, expose to light, develop again).

Am I wrong? or is the film itself coloured (making it less fun to make positives)?

(EDIT: disregard if this is hijacking, just wanted to expand a little on the topic)

That appears to be the case as I look through the homebrew and dr5 process that I linked to. It seems like scala just delivers better results. Too bad they don't make it anymore.

Well if anyone would like to experiment with processing my Scala rolls -- I shure would appreciate it, and wouldn't mind paying for the chemicals. I have roughly 15 rolls of scala in the fridge which is fresh, and waiting to be shot.

We can do it at my place. We can try to process it as a straight E-6 if you'd like.

... nevermind on the E-6 attempt...

Quote:
To my knowledge the chemical that kills this film is E6 bleach. Standard developers and fixers shouldn't have ill-effects on the image from the film; E6 bleach isd another story, I did that years ago when scala came out and E6 doesn't work - scala being it's own process type. All you get back is a white milky roll, lol. Before the film hit the bleach I probably could have had a negative from the E6 film if I just skipped the bleach altogether.

B&H still has expired (June 2010 I think) 35mm rolls of it in stock.
