Now that is a really good shot of lightning AND a volcano. Thanks for sharing!

That one is awesome, there are more from iceland here:

At some point i stumbled on a cool thread someplace on the internet that had people relaying the best advice they'd ever been given about photography, one of the phrases was "if you want more interesting pictures, point your camera at more interesting things", certainly applies here. Now if we could only get a volcano to erupt in northern ontario someplace...

Often the most interesting are the most dangerous.

Not as interesting and taken with a crap aps camera

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/metrix_feet/61904377/" title="Volcano meets Ocean by Metrix X, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/24/61904377_9f9476f831_o.jpg" width="1024" height="663" alt="Volcano meets Ocean"></a>

Freak rain storm and a slight wind blowing from an abnormal direction caused acid fog to form and couldn't see past 3', also heat made batteries go dead changing them ruined half a roll of film. Couldn't find our way back to the 4x4 at dusk. walking over areas where we could see lava flowing through the cracks, melted the soles of my trekking boots.

There's a guy on DPReview that got up close to the volcano to take shots like this:

Here is one of my favorite volcano/lightening shots. It's from Chillie and its spectacular too.
