It's been more than three years since I made a traditional black and white print and I've now gone to digital print-making, though I still use film cameras. I'm finding that many photographers no longer make prints at all and focus on computer-based photographs. I'm wondering if there are still some 'fine-art' printmakers around who still think it's important to be able to make quality digital prints?

Absolutely !!

have you see how many disgruntled and frustrated people gets at the consumer photolabs? you don't have to be an expert to know, that even your small point-and-shoot 10 megapixel camera, can and actually produces better images than those 8x10 awfully cropped images you've just picked up?

In a digital based era, most photographers are experiencing a "techie" craze, and we have become "pixels-sharp-speed-color depth-bit" freak; which ultimately have pushed printmaking techniques further in order to match the digital quality output.

digital printing aided by the right software and hardware, has enabled photographers and artists to expand their creative limit. Producing digital prints nowadays has become a challenging task but also a rewarding experience and quality is an everyday "must" for anyone wishing to stay in business.

Elevator Digital prints using both digital and analogue process (as well as alternative process Lith etc...). I recently printed my show at Elevator using a lambda exposing device on lambda fibre paper to produce toned B&W fibre based prints.

They are one of, if not the top printer in town.

Image capture (whether it is film or digital) is only, (at best, 50%) of the photographic process. Making a print is the more rewarding half of the process and sadly lost on most photographers these days.

As a long time photographer, I can say that nothing is more rewarding that creating a fine print.

Pikto now has a lightjet as well..... so they can do large format prints in-house. I use Pikto for all of my printing... The AGFA dlab is digital printing using traditional processing.
