I'm going for 4 days of skiing to Banff in a week time, and naturally, planning to take my camera with me.
Anybody can share some pointers related to the winter access to some photo locations? The sunset is before 6p.m., the skiing is till 4. So, I have not much time to get around.
Planning to drive to ski at lake Louise for 1 or 2 days as well.
Won't have 4x4, but can walk. :-)
It'll be my first time at Banff ever.

My reply is useless to you but I hope to hit Banff and Lake Louise this summer.

"How to Photograph the Rockies" by Darwin Wiggett is your best guide. You can find it in Calgary at "The Camera Store".

You can't beat it. I have it, and it gives step by step instructions on where and what time to be at which spots, including a number of places that you likely won't find on your own. It covers all the seasons.

Ha-ha
Sorry to disappoint you, but I already have a companion. Though my daughter is not keen on me locking her in a car in the middle of nowhere and start snapping the pictures.

I think you'll find that you won't have to go far away from the car to get good pics. You'll probably have to spend more time picking up your jaw off the ground.

So, picked my jaw off the frozen ground, and made back home after 4 days of skiing in Banff (2 days at Sunshine Village, and 2 days at Lake Louise).
I took my camera out one night, when the setting sun was lighting the snow-covered peaks. All other days it was cloudy with very few sun breaks when were were on the slopes.
The skiing was great - poor Blue Mountains.

Absolutely planning to come back to explore the area.
