I'm having trouble figuring out what to do. And betterscanning.com does not have a tray for these 'odd' size negatives.

I have loads of old film. They fit the 35mm holders that came with the V700, but the actual image size on the negatives is 3cm x 3cm. So I lose a good chunk off the tops of all the pictures (in some cases the tops of people's heads).

I cannot lay them flat on the glass and use the 'film with are guide' option, because the negatives have curled.

So the questions I pose are: 1) is there some easy way to press them flat against the glass, so the 'film area guide' option may be used (without taping them)? 2) Is there some other way to scan these?

thanks - michael

Is it still 35mm film? Is it half frame? Just make sure you have the thumbnail option of Epson Scan turned off. Then you can manually draw a marquee around the frame and scan exactly what you want to scan from the negative.

I understand how to do that. I'll clarify a little more. The reason the top of the picture is being cut off is because is because the exposed part of the negative (the picture) actually lays over the holder. So the holder is blocking part of the picture. The picture is 3cm x 3cm, as compared to typical 35mm film with a size of 2.4cm x 3.6cm.

Does this make more sense? It fits in the holder, but the holder blocks (or cuts off) the top part of the image.

So I need to know how to scan this curled film without losing part of the image.

did you try to lay the film on the scanner bed and keep it flat with a piece of glass?

The ANR glass will definitely help but also depends how curled the negatives are. I have a roll that's curled pretty bad and one piece of ANR glass couldn't hold it down. I was able to tape the ends of the glass to the 35mm holder which solved the problem.

Just to clarify, is it your pictures or the actual negatives that are bigger than normal? The ANR glass fits perfectly for normal 35mm film but if your negatives protrude out from the top and bottom, that may affect the results.

If I assume that the pictures that are bigger and not the negatives, then using ANR glass will most likely solve your curling problem. But again, with my roll, one piece couldn't hold it down and I had to tape the glass to the holder. In your case, using the holder is out of the question.

Best way is to try it out. Order yourself a piece and test.
