According to the rumors, supposedly Canon is going to announce some lenses on Jan 5th and Jan 9th. The next big surprise is that Canon removed quite a number of lenses from its lineup on their USA website and those lenses are now listed on the Archived camera list section for lenses/bodies that have been discontinued.

To note, the 24-70 and 70-200mm f2.8L IS are both in the archive lenses. So are most of the long telephoto lenses like the 300mm f2.8 IS, 400mm f2.8 IS etc. I wonder if they're getting upgraded to IS II?

Another rumor is that Canon's website was hacked. Who knows...

The 24-70 and 70-200 are (fortunately!) no longer on that list..?

would love to see 17-40 and 16-35 take advantage of IS too, if 17-55 can do it, so can those two :D

24-70L is badly in need of an update, the Sony/Zeiss, Nikon ans Sigma HSM 24-70's all outperform it by a fair amount.

70-200 f2.8L IS probably could use an IS update. Makes sense that Canon would be replacing them.

Supposedly a website glitch... or is it? Let's see what gets announced tomorrow. :D

Some of you have noticed that a significant number of lenses are missing from the Canon USA website at this moment.

You can rest assured that your favorite lens has not been discontinued - Canon USA has "... identified the issue and will have it fixed as soon as possible".

A 24-70mm f2.8L IS USM would make good sense.

Also, IS systems optimized for video would be nice too. Quieter motors would be ideal.

Well the Winter Olympics are just around the corner, and wouldn't it be a great time to let the dogs out in a full scale press against Nikon?

Hope their AF system works this time around.

I think a 14-24mm f2.8 would be ideal or revamp the 15mm fisheye dinosaur.
Yeah, IS that works with video would be nice. I think quieter IS would mean IS III or IV so Canon can charge you a premium. lol

I wonder if it will have a big impact on super tele prices. I have both the 300 f/2.8 IS and the 500 f/4 IS and was thinking of selling the 300 as it doesn't get much use. If a price drop is in the cards, I might as well do it sooner rather than later.

Hard to see how they can improve on the 300 f2.8 IS other than IS II. It's already tack sharp wide open. Heck, I just bought mine a few months ago! :P

Hummm, closer focusing and .21x increase in magnification. "Price to be determined" kinda scares me. Definitely in the $2100+ range.
