I was wondering if anybody could point out an inexpensive studio for rental, somewhere downtown preferably. I did some searches and the rentals are far more than what I prepared to pay for, so I'd be glad for some assistance here. I need a small space (10'x10'?), for 2-3 people, with a backdrop and equipment rental optionally.

Alternatively

What are you willing to pay? How many hours do you need?

oh yeah, hmm. not more than $200 for 4 hours with no equipment?

rental of 3 studio strobes for about $100 for the same period?

but preferably, $100 for 4 hours for the studio, with equipment. Too unreasonable?

Where do people go to practice studio photography?

There is Studio204 at 204 Spadina Ave. Philip has all the gear included in the rental which includes softboxes, stands etc. Not sure if they charge a rate for seamless. www.studio204.ca

There's also Creative Image Studios that are within your rates but I think you will have to rent the strobes etc. www.creativeimagestudios.com

I've been noticing these folks regularly posting ads up on craigslist for the past 2 months:

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/pho/1502419573.html

I have no idea who they are and how the space/equipment is, and they're not exactly downtown.

Not sure what kind of setup you have in mind, but wouldn't 10x10' be a little small for 2-3 people + lighting gear? (coming from someone who's only experience is setting up lighting in his 10x20 living room and twice on the street...) :P

Yeah, here's where my lack of experience and dislike of imperial units shows. I think I was trying to say 10x10 metres...

Check out Creative Image Studios (formerly Spectrum Studios), the rates are reasonable, check'em out:

http://www.creativeimagestudios.com/rates

They have a variety of studios to choose from. They even have seamless paper!

Location is central, by Queen St. & the DVP.

Happy shooting!

If you are up for a bit of a drive, go shoot at Adam's studio in Bowmanville. I am not sure what his rates are but I am sure he can hook you up. Bowmanville is about an hour east of Toronto.

Nice. That's not too far from my place as well so big bonus there. Let us know how it works out at that studio. Much thanks.

Dan - I have noticed two or three price structures for this studio over as many weeks on CL so try to negotiate with them - I think you may have some positive results. Good luck and please report back and let us know what the facility is like.

Definetly interested in your review as I have looked at that studio in recent weeks. The seem to have a first timer price which is half their going rate which is a nice touch.
