Are you in university/college or a teacher? You can buy a full educational version of CS4 for I believe 80% off retail value. Same as retail version sans product support or eligibility for an upgrade.

If none of the above, the cheaper alternative is to find a store selling CS3 (possibly CS2) and then buy the CS4 upgrade version.

You should be able to find it at the Apple Store or online at http://store.apple.com/ca/product/TT009 ... TQwMTIzNzE

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't qualify for the educational discount. I know that the apple store sells it but they want quite the premium (over $800). I'm just looking for another cheaper alternative... lol. thansk for the info tho!

I bought it from Adobe directly. As a member of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) I was able to get a discount. That was the cheapest I could find. I searched for months. There are various upgrade specials offered by Adobe. Check their site. If you have a legit version of PS Elements you can upgrade cheaper.
If you have a scanner you may have received a free copy of Elements with the software.

thanks philmar, i will look into it. As of right now, I managed to find a source in Quebec that sells it for $699 (with free shipping), but that's still a big chunk of cash. Thanks for the reply - i will see if i have elements lying around somewhere....

ALSO - NAPP membership is $100/year which pays for itself if you use their discount to buy CS4 (NAPP has tons of free tutorials for members). With the strong $Cdn I ordered CS4 online from Adobe.
Also - some P&S cameras come with Elements software which MAY be used for a cheap upgrade.
