I've been playing with the HD Capabilities on my 5D mk2, and have been getting some great shots by using high shutter speeds with the new manual exposure options, but am stuck at how to extract those single frames from the video feed.

Any suggestions? I have both a PC and Mac so if you have a recommendation can you please state the platform and software you use as well as brief instructions or reference to how to do it with that software?

If you need to extract a frame out of the video, use virtualdub which is free. This assuming that virtualdub can work with the format coming out of the Canon (which I believe is MPEG-4).

VLC Player (www.videolan.org) can extract single frames as well and it's also free.

Wow... Been using VLC for a long time... didn't know it had the frame grab. Very easy and exactly what I was looking for!
