What do you guys do when you're shooting expired or fresh C41 or E6? I haven't really gotten into the habit of pulling my E6 routinely yet, and they've turned out alright most of the time. As for the C41, I've heard pushing by 1/3-1/2 stop will produce better results, but I haven't really seen a difference in the rolls that I've shot and compared.

Any thoughts?

For C41 the general rule is to overexpose by a third to a half a stop (not pull in processing). I generally rate my NPZ @ 640 and my 400H @ 320 and then develop normally. I don't think that pushing film will get you better results. Rather just grainier and with higher contrast. Expired film loses speed over time so I will sometimes rate a stop slower than what's on the package.

Thanks Jonah! Do the prints turn out okay or are they over-exposed?

the techs usually compensate for over-exposed negs when printing... depending on where you go to have it processed and printed, you might get lucky and find someone who actually knows how to colour correct... however, these places usually charge $15-20 for processing and 36 prints...

I prefer to correct and adjust my own scans then print at TIW or even SDM using their self-serve kiosks.

I find that E6 is best shot and developed at speed as highlights are easily blown. It seems to work well for lower contrast scenes as the dynamic range and shadow details are reduced. C41 has better highlight dynamic range so it lends it's self to some reduction of speed to bring the shadow detail back. C41 doesn't pull very well and pushing doesn't work well with expired film so as Jonah says develop as usual. The biggest problem I have is a colour cast in the shadows which can be fixed in post.
