One of the members of the Toronto Strobist Group did this great video of our last event (Meetup #12). Check it out.

I sometimes find strobist portraits to be very unflattering most of the time... Jonathan was there and took some shots with just ambient lighting and I think those turned out better.

is it still in the mode of being 'strobists' when you're pulling out a huge elinchrom octa along with ABs and a dish?

ACK! I'd want to shoot myself if I had to share a shoot with 15 photographers. I've done it in my GBC fashion class and each time I leave wanting to not go back. Small groups of 3 or 4 I don't mind too much but 15 is asking for a paparazzi session.

You have to understand that a lot of the participants are new to strobist photography and it's a way for them to be involved with the process and equipment. It's not about the quality of the photos, it's about learning.

Funny I don't remember posting this in the Critique section of the forum .. lol. Quality strobist photography is actually not that easy. That is why a lot of folks stick to ambient light. But strobist photography done right can be quite amazing and is another creative outlet for the photographer.

I wasn't too sure when I saw the Octo but I looked it up and while the primary focus is with using small speedlights, using monos etc isn't against the strobist definition.

My bad. I saw 2 MUA's, 3 models, bikes, car, elaborate lighting setups so it looked pretty advance for a rookie setup.
