Hello all!

Is anyone interested in setting up a fashion/model shoot in the next month or so? I'm part of a photographers group here in Buffalo and we usually set up a time to meet every other week for everyone to bring a model and then have a fashion shoot, whether it's outdoor or studio shoots. We have a couple photographers in the group that are very familiar with fashion shooting/lighting, etc., and so it really benefited the entire group's experience. I personally learned a lot, and that has made it more fun and rewarding. Are there any photographers in the TPMG group that have experience in this field as well that would be interested in setting something up? I've been working with some of the photographers in the Buffalo area for some time and can offer my own experience as well.

I'm going to be asking some of the models that I personally know if they would be interested in making the trip to TO. Does anyone know any models/aspiring-models/brave/fun people that would be interested in getting their photos taken? Or how about a make-up artist that you know that would like to gain some experience and portfolio work?

Also, does anyone have any studio space or know of studio space (for indoor work) that we could use? A few people mentioned that Picto in the Warehouse district (did I get that right?) might offer some space to rent out. Waterfront/urban outdoor settings are nice too to throw in the mix, so those of you who know some secret or cozy spots let us know! Outdoor stuff can be fun but it can also be if-y, depending on location and weather. So outdoor areas that are "sheltered" are sometimes ideal. I have some simple studio lighting equipment (main flash/slaves/stands/umbrellas) that I can bring up for indoor work as well.

Most of the work we do here in Buffalo has been TFP work and we sign off on waivers for both the photographer and model. Gotta keep it nice and proper!

Let me know and I'll start rounding up some models/make-up artists/talent and maybe even bring along some of the fashion gurus (if they're up for it) with me, and we can start coordinating something!

Joey B

Im interrested! Sounds like a great idea! I know of a good studio but it rents out for $250.00 a day. I'm sure if we contact any agency you can get models to pose for free if we promise them prints for there portfolio's.

Lets make this happen!

I came across this link sometime ago but didn't have a chance to use them yet. The rates are fairly good and it includes Bowens lighting equipments! If anyone here has used them before, I would like some feedbacks. btw, I am not affiliated with them in any way.

I like Joey's idea of bringing up some of his local model talent on a TFP basis (or perhaps TFCD) for a 'visit' to T-dot and a different pool of photographic talent.

There are quite a few people here who have access to studios on the cheap... we don't need to rent a big set up.

I'm interested in doing this and I might be able to provide some lighting equipment, too.

I'd love to get in on some fashion photography. Most of my work currently comprises of event photography, and nightlife. I'd reeally like to make the move to fashion, but could use some experienced advice and some sessions like these. Count me in.

Hey, these are the places and people I have dealt with. If the post was about pharmacies, then I would have said: Shoppers and Sobeys.

Other posts reference Picto and Henry's, etc. So, to answer your question: NO!

Spectrum offers workshops that provide everything you need to do a Fashion or Glamour or Nude or Theme shoot. I believe that's what people are looking for in this post.

http://www.spectrum-studios.com/revised/workshops.php

Their prices are very good and you don't have to provide TFP or TFP CD, but you can use the images for self promotion.

Lindsay, of Toronto Model Bookings, is a great model! She also has a fantastic line up or male and female models. I hired both a Male and Female model for my Sportswear Catalogue Shoot earlier this year. You can see samples of the photography on the new website I just finished for them. The male model is Justin Cowley and the girl was Diane Maje...

http://www.concordgarment.com/

Spectrum recently offered a free Breach Shoot, which I, Diane and Mike Tan (Tanner of TPMG) were at. Photos from that shoot can be seen on my Flickr Page.

And there is also a video of it on the model booking site, as they provided the models. It was shot by David Chang - a fashion photographer. And David Hou - another Fashion photographer was in attendance. If you look closely, you can see me!!!

I'd likely be interested in this. It's been a while since I've done any serious portraiture.

Glad to see the replies! I've started contacting the other photographers down here in the states and some of the models and I'll let everyone know when schedules allow for us to come up as a group.

In the meantime, keep pouring in the suggestions and research for places, models, etc. Since a big part of my photography is geared towards the fashion realm now, I'll be working on setting up a lot of these in the future as well for those who love it as much as I.

Keep creating!

Okay, so I'm looking at the following dates for shoots (whether indoor or outdoor):

Sept 17th (primarily outdoor)
Oct 1st, 7th, and 8th (indoor/outdoor depending on studio/space availability and participation)
Not necessarily ALL of the dates.

These are the earliest that I could have other photographic talent and models accompanying me up to TO. I am currently exchanging emails, etc, with models that already live in TO to see if they'd be willing to participate.

Again, if you know of any talent (model or MUA) that wants to get some more exposure, post away. In the future, when events like this get big/popular enough I'll be looking into setting up a dedicated website/forum so that I don't feel like I'm using this forum inappropriately.. which may sound silly, but I don't like to upset or step on anyones toes by accident.

Can anyone participate in something on any of those dates?

If you want I can setup a poll on this thread so it'll be easier for you to see which dates works out best for people here.

If someone else is organizing it, and I can get the day off, I will try and be there.

Can't commit because it is too far away... ( I am envious of people who can plan their lives that far in the future)

Looks like Sept 17th is going to happen first! I've also confirmed with a local photographer here in Buffalo that he can make the trip up on Sept 17th as well, along with a model interested in that day too. That doesn't mean the other dates can't happen, too...

Depending on how many people will partake, I think it would be safe to say that in order to be fair about shooting with models that it's advisable for most of the people planning on attending to at least try to BYOM (bring your own model). I'll do my best to bring as much talent as I can up with me, but I just wanted to make sure that was out in the open.

The one thing I did forget to post was something that has always added more fun to the shoots: Theme! Most of the work we've done here in Buffalo had a theme to it, whether it was high-concept makeup, gothic, urban fashion, etc. Since events like this should be fun, I figured I throw out a couple suggestions that I think would break any ice and be fun for everyone.

1. Urban/Alternative: Everyone has a favorite wacked-out-urban-look that they can pull out of their wardrobe. These are great for shooting around the city or in back alleys or small parks.

2. Negative space: A lot of advertisements in magazines and other publications make use of negative space to seperate the model/product from the actual typography. Compositions would take advantage of that negative space. Maybe we can have a contest to see who can come up with the craziest ad.

Any other ideas?
